Betis defeated Getafe (2-1) in a heated encounter which ended with two late send-offs. However, Antony’s red card has been cancelled by La Liga, meaning he will feature in the match against Real Madrid on Saturday. This is important for the team considering the dynamism the Brazilian has brought on the right wing since his arrival. 

Isco was key in securing the victory in Getafe, scoring a brace and thanking the fans for their support, away from home: “It felt as if we were playing at home”, he explained after the match.

The victory was important as Betis have struggled to make an impact outside of Benito Villamarin throughout the season. Unlike in previous encounters, Betis allowed Getafe to counter-attack without overstretching, which allowed Antony, Johnny, and Isco to exploit spaces on the break. 

Betis lost to Gent (0-1) at home, but had won 3-0 in the first encounter, allowing the team to progress to the Conference League Round of 16. They have been paired with Portuguese side Vitória SC, with the first leg scheduled for March 6th in Sevilla.

According to Relevo, Real Madrid will stop their collaboration with Zegna for the club’s fashion. The Italian company and the Spanish club have been working together since 2022, but rumours claim that French luxury brand Louis Vuitton is the chosen successor. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham had already signed a contract with the brand last year. 

Real Madrid defeated Girona comfortably (2-0), as Luka Modrić’s impressive strike in the first goal left many fans speechless, including his teammates. For Ancelotti, this is no surprise: ‘With him, it is not by chance’. 

Jude Bellingham is suspended, while Dani Carvajal and Éder Militão remain sidelined through injury. Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde are doubtful, as they await medical clearance.

Although playing at home usually favours Betis, it is unlikely to suffice against second-placed Real Madrid. The visitors are in the middle of a three horse race to claim the La Liga title. If Mbappé and Valverde make it, Betis can expect a difficult encounter on Saturday. Should that not be the case, Betis will still have to contend with a solid defence with the return of David Alaba.

However, it is important to remember that Real Madrid’s attack will look different without Jude Bellingham. Modrić could be key in the final third, despite his lack of speed. The key will be to avoid Johnny being overloaded by Real Madrid’s attack, who have significantly faster attackers than Betis. 

Betis have not defeated Real Madrid since 2020, which is why betting odds also vouch for Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti has often been criticized for failing to address defensive issues, instead focusing on maximizing the team’s attacking potential with Bellingham, Vinicius and Mbappé as his main trick cards.

Isco has been in great form since he returned from injury. A goal would not be surprising from the attacking midfielder, especially with the suspension of Bellingham and the potential absence of Federico Valverde.
