Paris Saint-Germain

As is the case every year, the lack of competition for PSG in Ligue 1 is a frequent topic of public debate. The club remains undefeated in France, having won six games and drawn two.

PSG recently defeated RC Strasbourg 4-2, with goals from Mayulu, Asensio, Barcola, and Lee. PSG’s only defeat this season came against Arsenal, a 2-0 loss. Luis Enrique’s team won its first Champions League game against Girona, but there were some concerns as they struggled to capitalize on Girona’s defensive lapses.

The match against PSV Eindhoven is critical for Paris Saint-Germain, as PSV is considered one of the more manageable opponents in their group. A win would put PSG back on track and demonstrate their potential to lead the Champions League standings.

The club has yet to win the elusive European trophy and continues to search for the optimal tactical formula.

PSG may have found relief in their weekend victory, but conceding two late goals exposed the team’s waning concentration over the full 90 minutes. This complacency is what separates champions from challengers in the Champions League, where a few seconds of inattention can change the outcome of matches.

Luis Enrique will be without Presnel Kimpembe, Lucas Hernández, and Goncalo Ramos, all of whom are sidelined with injuries.

PSV Eindhoven

Surprisingly, PSV’s season mirrors that of Paris Saint-Germain in several ways.

PSV remains undefeated in the Eredivisie, winning all nine matches. Utrecht is the closest competitor with 22 points, five behind Eindhoven.

Like PSG, PSV’s European campaign has been disappointing. Juventus cruised to a 3-1 victory in Turin over PSV, with goals from Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie, and Nicolás González.

Ismael Saibari, subbed on in the 62nd minute, scored PSV’s consolation goal in the final minutes. Many would argue this result was expected, as PSV was never expected to compete on equal footing with Juventus.

PSV’s next game in the Champions League ended in a draw against Sporting (1-1). The game was evenly matched, reinforcing the notion that PSV lacks the level to compete effectively in the Champions League.

It’s telling that PSV’s top scorer is still 34-year-old Luuk de Jong, a one-dimensional player whose presence makes PSV’s attack predictable for opponents in European competitions.

PSV head coach Peter Bosz will be without Sergiño Dest, Joey Veerman, and Hirving Lozano, all out with injuries.

Paris Saint-Germain vs PSV Eindhoven Prediction

  • Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain to win
  • Odds: 1.41 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 PSV Eindhoven

PSG needs a confidence boost to impose their tempo in the Champions League. As is often the case, the PSG that plays in Ligue 1 and the UCL seem to be two different teams.

The match against PSV on Tuesday presents a perfect opportunity to get back on track, as the coming weeks in the Champions League will see them face tougher opponents like Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich

PSV often concedes and can be easily neutralised in attack. The injury of Hirving Lozano adds to PSG’s chances, leaving Luuk de Jong as PSV’s sole reliable forward option. Lozano is PSV’s second-highest scorer this season, so Peter Bosz will need to adjust his attack in his absence.

PSG benefits from the home advantage, as they typically perform better at home than away in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain vs PSV Eindhoven Betting Tip

  • Pick: Marco Asensio to open the score
  • Odds: 2.5 (22Bet)

While Ousmane Dembélé is expected to shine in this encounter, another player could steal the spotlight.

Former Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio was in fine form against Strasbourg over the weekend, a timely boost ahead of the game against PSV Eindhoven. If Dembélé is the tornado, Asensio is the more thoughtful player in front of goal in the final third.

Considering that Asensio may be paired with Bradley Barcola (who also scored against RC Strasbourg), the pairing sounds like Luis Enrique’s best option. This pairing combines physicality and technique, forcing PSV to deal with both threats.
