Inzaghi already coached the squad to a final in the 2022/23 season, but lost to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City (1-0). Inter have not won the Champions League since 2010, when they defeated Barcelona under José Mourinho.

Inzaghi rotated his players in the Serie A match against Verona, preceding the UCL tie against Barça. This was necessary due to the limited squad depth and an ageing player. However, it didn’t stop Inter from claiming a 1-0 success.
