Brest vs Real Madrid Preview and Team News
Brest Team News
Brest aren’t certain of qualifying for the knockout round of the Champions League, but their surprising run in their first appearance in the competition is likely to see them progress through the next round. Brest won four matches, drew one and only lost two.
In most games, their low-block has been effective against teams of similar stature, as they relied on Ludovic Ajorque and Mama Baldé to score in counters.
It’s quite rare for the team to dominate possession or chances, but their focus led them to defend and take the few opportunities they create from counter-attacking situations. Brest faced a few teams who weren’t used to the Champions League yet, like RB Salzburg, Graz Sturm and Sparta Praha.

In Ligue 1, it’s a different story. Brest rank 8th, after they secured a narrow 0-1 away victory against Le Havre last weekend.
The focus on the Champions League, with a likely qualification for the next round, have led to squad rotations and therefore inconsistency in Ligue 1, where low-blocks are less efficient due to Ligue 1’s reliance on individual talents to break compact structures.
The club is aware of the challenges and welcomed the arrival of 19-year-old left back Justin Bourgault. The move was officially announced last Friday as a free transfer. Bourgault, who previously played for third-tier league club US Concarneau, has signed a four-year contract.

Coach Stéphane Rossi described Bourgault as a full-back with a high technical level who likes to overlap. He is said to be mature and a fast-learner, making him an excellent long-term bet for Brest.
Soumaïla Coulibaly, Julien Le Cardinal, Bradley Locko, Jordan Amavi, Massadio Haidara and Jonas Martin remain sidelined due to injury. Luc Zogbé and Justin Bourgault aren’t eligible to play in the Champions League yet as they haven’t been registered and will also miss the match.
Brest predicted lineup vs Real Madrid: 4-2-3-1: Marco Bizot; Pereira Lage, Ndiaye, Chardonnet, Lala; Magnetti, Edmilson Fernandes; Doumbia, Camara, Mama Baldé; Ajorque.
Real Madrid Team News
After a difficult season start, Real Madrid are back on track in La Liga, ranking first, after defeating Real Valladolid on Saturday (0-3). Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick, earning him the applause of the fans after being criticized in his first months after his arrival.
Real Madrid dominated the encounter, with Dani Ceballos providing composure in midfield while Mbappé, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr were finally complementing each other.

Real Madrid’s Champions League beginnings were difficult, defeated by league leaders Liverpool (2-0), Milan (1-3) and Lille (1-0). However, they have corrected their performances in the last two matches, with a 3-2 victory against Atalanta and a 5-1 win against RB Salzburg.
Fans were never worried about the difficult start, as it has previously happened in the competition. Real Madrid often reserve their best performances for the Champions League knockout stages, where it matters most.
They are currently 13th, but a victory could push them into the Top 8. In this case, Real Madrid are likely to have an ‘easier’ opponent in the RO16.
Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and Eduardo Camavinga remain sidelined.
Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Brest: 4-3-3: Courtois; Mendy, Rüdiger, Asencio, Valverde; Ceballos, Modrić, Bellingham; Vinicius Jr, Mbappé, Rodrygo.
Bet hereBrest vs Real Madrid Prediction
- Pick: Real Madrid to win
- Odds: 1.38 (22Bet)
- Score Prediction: Brest 0-3 Real Madrid
Despite early struggles in the Champions League, Real Madrid’s performances against Atalanta and RB Salzburg demonstrated their dangerous potential. Mbappé’s performances have improved, as he is a candidate to claim the Pichichi trophy in La Liga. His hat-trick is likely to inspire him for more goals.
With Brest having a lengthy injury list and not being able to play at their own stadium, the return of Vinicius Jr after his suspension against Valladolid makes a Madrid victory likely. Although Brest performed well against teams of similar strength, they lost 3-0 to Barcelona, another La Liga side.
Brest vs Real Madrid Prediction, Betting Tip
- Pick: Kylian Mbappé to score
- Odds: 1.83 (22Bet)
While Mbappé initially struggled to play with Vinicius Jr, the Frenchman has improved in the last two months. In La Liga, he scored 15 goals in 19 matches, with an xG of 14.66. As he shoots about 4.5 times per match, it makes him one of the best attackers in the league.
Brest’s block is compact, but stopping individual quality like Rodrygo, Bellingham and Mbappé is likely going to be difficult.
