Sevilla vs Barcelona Preview and Team News

Sevilla Team News

Sevilla’s Winter transfer window has left García Pimienta frustrated with the club’s direction. With the exit of Lucas Ocampos (Monterrey) and the retirement of Jesús Navas, the side had more money than expected.

Despite this, the coach’s only request was for a left-back – one that was not granted. Valentín Balerco decided to go to Strasbourg, while Kelechi Iheanacho departed for Middlesbrough on loan.

The Spanish club currently sit 12th in La Liga after a goalless tie against Getafe in their last match. Sevilla’s biggest issue has been a lack of dynamism in possession, with no consistent dribblers capable of beating opponents in one-on-one situations.

At the same time, their midfield lacks creativity. Djibril Sow and Sambi Lokonga often operate in deeper roles. This lack of attacking intent makes it difficult for the squad to break through central channels.

Sevilla will also have to cope with Tanguy Nianzou’s absence. He suffered an injury in November and opted for conservative care. After two months, he realized the treatment was ineffective and opted for surgery. He’s expected to be out for the remainder of the season while the club are trying to unregister him due to his high wages.

José Ángel Carmona will serve his suspension after his red card.

Sevilla predicted lineup vs Barcelona (4-3-3): Nyland, Pedrosa, Gudelj, Badé, Salas, Sow, Lokonga, Niguez, Vargas, Isaac Romero, Lukebakio.

Barcelona Team News

Barcelona’s Winter transfer window remained quiet following the ‘Dani Olmo storm,’ which revolved around registration disputes between the club and La Liga. The player has been temporarily contracted, though it remains unclear whether he’ll be registered ‘normally’ in the coming months. He also suffered an injury that sidelined him for recent matches, but recent reports suggest he’s fit to return.

In the Copa del Rey, Barcelona eliminated Real Betis (5-1), thanks to goals from Lamine Yamal, Ferrán Torres, Raphinha, Gavi and Jules Koundé. This was considered one of the team’s best performances since Hansi Flick took over. It also marked the first time Dani Olmo played as a false nine, a role in which he provided two assists.

In the quarter finals of the Cope del Rey Barcelona secured a convincing victory against relegation-threatened Valencia (0-5) last Thursday. Ferran Torres scored a hat trick while Fermín López and Lamine Yamal also appeared on the scoresheet. Barcelona are now in the last four of the cup tournament and are still in the race for all the main prizes this season.

Gavi’s injury is likely to keep him out on Sunday, and a return date has not been communicated yet. Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, and Marc-André Ter Stegen also remain sidelined due to injuries.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs Sevilla (4-3-3): Szczęsny, Balde, Cubarsí, Araújo, Koundé, Casadó, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Raphinha, Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal.

Sevilla vs Barcelona Prediction

  • Prediction: Barcelona to win
  • Odds: 1.53 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Sevilla 0-3 Barcelona

Sevilla present an ideal opportunity for Barcelona to regain confidence, similar to the game against Real Betis. Pimienta will be without Carmona, leaving him with limited options at left and right back.

It won’t be surprising to see Flick use this to his advantage, primarily through Lamine Yamal. With Dani Olmo’s return, the guests regain their most crucial transition player.

Historically, the hosts have struggled against Flick’s squad, last winning at the La Liga Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán in 2015. The previous match, in Barcelona, ended in a resounding 5-1 victory for the Catalans. With Pimienta’s project stagnating and Sevilla lacking midfield creativity, a different outcome would be surprising.

Sevilla vs Barcelona Betting Tip

  • Pick: Dani Olmo to score
  • Odds: 3.75 (22Bet)

Dani Olmo just recovered from injury, but passive teams like Sevilla are his bread and butter. He tends to receive the ball between the two lines of defence, making him the ideal transition outlet.

It’s unclear whether the false nine experiments will continue. However, as the hosting side struggle to defend against fast-paced transitions, we anticipate Dani Olmo scoring.
