Portugal

Portugal only need to win this round to confirm their qualification as the first-placed team of the group. They’re the only team to remain undefeated, recording three victories, with Scotland being the only team to hołd a draw (0-0). Portugal will finish the tournament with a match against Croatia.

Portugal’s squad is hampered by several injuries. Key players like Diogo Jota and Gonçalo Ramos in attack, and Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, and Pedro Goncalves in midfield, will be absent.

Portugal’s defence is also suffering without Ruben Dias and Gonçalo Inácio. However, Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa is back with the team after missing the October call-up.

Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his disappointment with players who were not interested in representing Portugal, as he stated that: “there’s nothing better than playing for the national team, representing your country, culture and children”.

Ronaldo has already featured in five matches against Poland, and Portugal only lost one with CR7 on the pitch.

Poland

Poland sit third in the group, having accumulated four points in as many matches. The Poles started the tournament well with a victory against Scotland (2-3) away from home, but suffered two defeats afterwards.

Luka Modrić’s goal allowed Croatia to take the three points home, while Portugal outclassed Poland in Warszawa (1-3).

The most recent match against Croatia was somewhat chaotic, but the two teams shared points after a 3-3 thriller. Piotr Zieliński scored in the fifth minute, while Nicola Zalewski and Sebastian Szymański also scored for Poland.

Despite scoring three goals, it wasn’t enough as Borna Sosa, Petar Sučić and Martín Baturina scored for Croatia. As things currently stand, Poland needs to qualify for the knock-out stage through the playoffs.

Poland have struggled to keep a clean sheet, as they have conceded at least a goal in the last nine matches. Their attack has improved since Michael Probierz’s arrival, but the trade-off may not be good enough.

The team’s attack will be without Robert Lewandowski, who is struggling with lower back issues. Arkadiusz Milik isn’t expected to play, which leaves Karol Świderski as the most likely option as a striker.

Poland’s midfield will also be weakened after the injuries of Jakub Piotrowski and Kacper Kozłowski. Paweł Dawidowicz won’t feature either.

Portugal vs Poland Prediction

  • Prediction: Portugal to win
  • Odds: 1.22 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Portugal 3-1 Poland

Poland has lost five of its last six matches against Portugal. The Portuguese, on the other hand, will aim to reclaim the Nations League title, having last won the inaugural tournament in 2018/19.

Portugal’s record against Poland and in the tournament makes a victory likely at home in Porto, but the absence of Ruben Dias gives Poland’s attack hopes to score. The attack won’t be as efficient with the absence of Robert Lewandowski, which explains why betting odds favour CR7’s team.

Portugal vs Poland Betting Tip

  • Pick: Rafael Leão to score
  • Odds: 2.875 (22Bet)

Despite scoring three goals and providing six assists in ten games, Rafael Leão has faced criticism for his season at AC Milan. Rafael Leão remains unconcerned, stating: “I believe I am having a good season”. Together with Bruno Fernandes, he’s expected to be the creative leader of the team against Poland.

Leão’s 1v1 dribbling is his best asset, as Portugal doesn’t have any other high-volume dribblers in the squad. He is yet to score with the national team after four games in the Nation’s League, although he registered one assist (against Scotland).
