Netherlands vs Spain Preview and Team News
Netherlands Team News
The Netherlands finished second in their Nations League group with nine points, five behind the German leaders. Although this may seem like a great campaign on paper, they’ve won just two games out of six. Their only victories came against relatively weak opponents, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
They failed to beat their most crucial opponent, Germany. In their initial encounter they drew 2-2. The first half saw both teams share dominance and the second was entirely the Germans’ show. Their next event was worse, with the rivals winning 1-0 and controlling most of the game.

The Netherlands drew three fixtures, finishing with a 50% draw rate. Ronald Koeman continues to disappoint as his men are unable to match their talent. Amid the squad selection surprise, Koeman did not take Man United player Joshua Zirkzee. Memphis Depay remains the main man up front.
Jerdy Schouten is hurt and is unlikely to feature on Thursday. Denzel Dumfries picked up an injury last weekend and won’t be available. Koeman called up Mats Wieffer and Yoeri Baas as replacements.
Netherlands predicted line-up vs Spain (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Geertruida, Van Dijk, Van Hecke, Frimpong; Gravenberch, De Jong; Gakpo, Reijnders, Simons; Brobbey.
Spain Team News
After winning EURO 2024 under Luis de La Fuente, it was important was not to get cocky and remain humble. In that regard, de La Fuente has been fantastic for the Spaniards. His team finished first in its group, with five wins and one draw (against Serbia, 0-0).
In the match against Serbia, de la Fuente’s men dominated the encounter against a passive side, but were wasteful in front of the net.

Although de la Fuente has shifted Spain’s style to a more vertical one with Fabián Ruiz as the key protagonist in the midfield, his squad list remains controversial. He selected Raúl Asencio following the injury of Vivian (Athletic Club), which sparked controversy.
The Real Madrid defender has been accused of being complicit in the filming of pornographic content involving a minor, and his case is still in court. Fans reacted by calling it unacceptable, but de La Fuente defended his choice in the press conference on March 14th: “He played well in the youth teams and I thought he deserves a chance.”

While it’s true that he’s been key at Real Madrid, many pushed for Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth).
The other choice concerned the midfield. Rodri would be preferred, but his injury makes it impossible. Fans have pushed Isco, who had an excellent season with Betis and was thought to be selected. However, the surplus of attacking midfielders justifies his absence.
Dean Huijsen, initially called up for the U-21s, will make his debut in the Spanish senior selection after Iñigo Martínez sustained an injury.
Spain Predicted line-up vs Netherlands (4-3-3): Raya; Cucurella, Le Normand, Cubarsí, Asencio; Zubimendi, Fabian, Pedri; Olmo, Morata, Yamal.
Bet hereNetherlands vs Spain Prediction
- Prediction: Spain to win
- Odds: 2.51 (22Bet)
- Score Prediction: Netherlands 1-3 Spain
Spain have remained unbeaten since becoming the EURO 2024 winners and therefore are the favourites to win against the Netherlands. Despite their home advantage, the Dutch side will have a difficult time in Rotterdam as Ronald Koeman has struggled to find a direction for the team.
His men lack coordination and vision. Players like Depay and Malen continue to be selected despite struggling at club level.
The Spanish squad keeps expanding, with Yamal and Pedri continuing to improve, although Nico Williams’ development has slowed.
Netherlands vs Spain Betting Tip
- Pick: Lamine Yamal to score
All eyes will be on Lamine Yamal, a key playmaker during the EURO 2024 who has not stopped improving since. Although still a minor, he plays with the maturity of a veteran.
On Sunday, he unlocked Atlético’s defence when Barcelona needed him the most. His creativity was never in question, but his scoring numbers have improved this term, which means he’s likely to be the squad’s leader against the Netherlands.
With the support of his teammates in Dani Olmo and Pedri, there’s no doubt he’ll be given enough chances to make an impact against a shaky defense.
