Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Preview
Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich kept their first spot in the Bundesliga despite the 1-1 draw in Der Klassiker at the Signal Iduna Park last Saturday. Jamie Gittens gave Dortmund the lead in the 27th minute, but Jamal Musiala rescued a point for Bayern with his 85th-minute equalizer.
Although Vincent Kompany’s team pushed hard for the win, dominating with 66% possession and the most shots, they struggled with finishing.

Kompany’s men haven’t lost a single game in over a month, as their last defeat was the 4-1 defeat against Barcelona.
However, in the upcoming DFB Pokal clash, Bayern will be without several key players, including Hikori Ito, Josip Stanišić, João Palhinha, Aleksandr Pavlović, Serge Gnabry, and Harry Kane.

Bayer Leverkusen
Expectations were high for Bayer Leverkusen after winning the Bundesliga in the 2023/24 season. Although Leverkusen haven’t matched the consistency of their title-winning season, they remain a competitive force in the Bundesliga.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen only lost one game in the Bundesliga, against RB Leipzig (2-3). However, their Achilles’ heel this season has been late-game lapses.
Unlike last season, where they consistently clinched last-minute victories, this term has seen them drop points in the dying moments. Examples include conceding a 90th-minute equalizer in the 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen and an 89th-minute goal in the 1-1 stalemate against Bochum.

They won this weekend against Union Berlin (1-2), which has lifted them to third place in the Bundesliga. They are now six points behind second-placed Frankfurt and seven points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.
In the Champions League, Leverkusen have experienced mixed results. They demolished Feyenoord (0-4) and RB Salzburg (5-1) and also secured a narrow win against Milan (1-0). However, they suffered a heavy defeat against Arne Slot’s Liverpool (4-0) at Anfield. They were also mediocre against Brest (1-1), considered one of the weaker sides in their group.
Jeanuël Belocian, Nordi Mukiele, Jonas Hofmann, Amine Adli, Martin Terrier, and Victor Boniface will be sidelined, leaving Alonso with a thinner squad to face Bayern.

Harry Kane would’ve been the logical choice for Bayern Munich, but he suffered a knock in Der Klassiker. He was taken off in the 33rd minute, and the club confirmed he will miss the next weeks as a result.
There’s no doubt that Jamal Musiala is the next player that comes to mind. He saved the team against Dortmund and functions as the team’s leader through his dazzling dribbling and unique vision. Musiala creates countless chances for the team and will be a difficult player to contain for Leverkusen.

For Bayer Leverkusen, both full-backs Jeremy Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo deserve to be on this list. While many focus on Bayer’s midfielders, Granit Xhaka or Aleix García, a large part of Xabi Alonso’s plans for the team would be unfeasible without his wing-backs.
They play a major offensive role, and Grimaldo is a full-back who inverts when needed. He isn’t the most athletic player, but he will cause issues in the counter-attack against Bayern’s high-pressing and risky approach.
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Analysis
Bayern’s high-pressing will be a source of strength and weakness against Leverkusen. The Bavarians have modified their approach since Vincent Kompany arrived at the club, preferring to press the opponent even if it means sacrificing defensive solidity.
They often get away with it due to the team’s unique physical levels, but also because they have one of the best squads in Europe.
However, this approach may require some refinement against a team like Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen. The Werkself use wing-backs as a source of attacking threat, with Grimaldo being the main outlet. Grimaldo is rarely marked as Frimpong gets all the attention but he isn’t less dangerous.

Bayern’s full-backs often go all-in and leave spaces behind which can be a source of counter-attacks for their opponent. Without Harry Kane, Bayern’s most important source of goals is temporarily gone, forcing Kompany to readjust his strategy.
On the other hand, Leverkusen struggles to keep clean sheets and a stable rest defence. The match is expected to be a goal fest, considering the attacking nature of both teams.
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Prediction
- Football pick: Bayern to win
- Odds: 1.76 (22Bet)
- Score prediction: Bayern Munich 2-1 Bayer Leverkusen
Bayern Munich have dominated the encounter throughout the years, despite Leverkusen fighting back in recent editions. They are a tricky team, and with Florian Wirtz’s unique output, they have a chance to upset Bayern. However, the home advantage speaks to Bayern’s advantage.
Both teams create many high-quality chances in front of goal, but a cool head will decide the winner on Tuesday. It’s unclear how important the DFB-Pokal is to Leverkusen, while it’s likely that Kompany will rotate his starting XI.
Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen Betting Tip
- Football Pick: Jamal Musiala to score
- Odds: 2.85 (22Bet)
With Harry Kane ruled out due to injury, Jamal Musiala will carry the burden of leading Bayern Munich’s attack. He’s often found at the centre of Bayern’s transitions from the midfield to the final third, while his dribbling skills allow him to eliminate one defender after the other.

The youngster, who scored a crucial goal against Borussia Dortmund, has earned the respect of both teammates and fans for his ability to step up in big moments. If anyone is expected to take responsibility in front of the net against Leverkusen, it’s Musiala.
