Union Berlin are in action in the Friday night game in the Bundesliga this week, as they host RB Leipzig. Both German sides are in the top half of the standings coming into the 14th round of games, but both will need a positive result having gone on a run of defeats.

Both Union Berlin and Leipzig will certainly be disappointed with the performances that they have put in over recent weeks. Both will be aiming to finish in the European spots once again this season, with Leipzig aiming for a Champions League position.
However, the Red Bull-owned club will face a challenge to achieve that feat as they are currently down in eighth as we approach the half way stage of the campaign. Due to the competitive nature of the season though, they are just four points behind Freiburg, which means an upturn in form will certainly improve their chances.
Leipzig can’t have taken many positive from their last couple of games, as they have lost back-to-back games in the Bundesliga. Their most recent defeat came on Sunday afternoon, as they were well-beaten 3-1 by Bayer Leverkusen.
Union’s form has also dipped, but they still remain in sixth place by the narrowest of margins. They have one only once in their last five games, and they weren’t able to get back-to-back wins in their most recent fixture.
Still, they remain two points outside of the top four places in the Bundesliga, and are currently level on points with seventh placed Wolfsburg. Union were beaten by Eintracht Frankfurt away from home in their last fixture, as the hosts claimed a 2-1 victory. However, Union were unfortunate to lose that game, as Frankfurt fired home the winner in the fifth minute of injury time at the end of the game.

Union picked up a first win in the Bundesliga against Leipzig late last season, as they won 2-1 at home. However, before that win, Leipzig had won the previous three Bundesliga fixtures between the sides, scoring eight times in the process.

Both Union and Leipzig desperately need the points this weekend, which makes for a compelling fixture. However, Leipzig have the additional quality and should be able to get over the line and take the victory. But, we can foresee both teams finding the net in the match.
