Scotland have known for a while that their chances of qualifying for the European Championships will hinge on this route. They finished nine points behind second-placed Russia in Group I in the qualifying stages, but they were given a second opportunity due to the fact that they are a host nation. Israel have drawn their last two games 1-1, with one of those draws coming against Scotland. The second of the draws came against Slovakia in their last game. Ilay Elmkies scored a late equaliser to salvage a point for Israel in that fixture.
