Real Madrid will be looking to rebuild their season as they welcome Getafe to the capital on Tuesday evening, after they have won just two of their last four fixtures in La Liga.

Any hope of Real Madrid regaining their La Liga title already looks to be over, as Atletico have claimed a vice-like grip on the title this term. Real’s recent form certainly hasn’t helped them close the gap on the top of the league, as they have lost as many games in their last six as Atletico have all season. Zinedine Zidane’s side were at least able to claim a second win in four in their most recent fixture at the weekend, as they beat Huesca 2-1. Both goals for Madrid in the win were scored by an unlikely star, as central defender Raphael Varane scored twice in the second half. His winning goal came six minutes from time, as Madrid edged past their struggling opponents.
This may not be the worst game for Madrid, as Getafe have struggled to pick up wins this season. They have won just six games this term, and haven’t won in their three most recent fixtures in the league. They have been beaten twice in three outings, which includes the defeat that they suffered at the weekend against Sevilla. Getafe were well below the standard required in that game, but Djene Dakounam’s red card ten minutes into the second half certainly played a role in the way that the game played out in the second period. They will need to be much better defensively against Real on Tuesday night.

Getafe have only beaten Real Madrid on three occasions in La Liga, and the most recent of their wins came nine years ago in a 2-1 success. They have struggled against the reigning champions since that win, as they have lost 12 of the 13 fixtures. Getafe haven’t scored against Real in any of the three most recent meetings, and were beaten by Zidane’s side in both meetings last season.
