Another international break takes place this week, and the first round of fixtures that will be taking place will be a number of high-quality friendlies. One of the most appealing will see Poland take on Ukraine.
International Friendly Preview
Poland are already gearing up for the European Championships that are set to take place next year, and they have been in decent form over their last three games. Poland didn’t lose in the last international break, as they won twice and drew once. That draw was a creditable result against Italy, as the sides were held to a 0-0 draw. However, Poland will still come into this fixture having scored eight goals in three games, while they have conceded just once. Their last international friendly came against Finland, with Poland running out comfortable 5-1 winners. Kamil Grosicki was in excellent form in that fixture, as he scored a first-half hat-trick. Meanwhile, further goals in Gdansk were scored by Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik. This could be a more testing fixture this time.
Ukraine’s form during European Championship qualifying was excellent, as they managed to qualify with ease. However, since then, their form hasn’t been as consistent, and they couldn’t come into this game in more inconsistent form. Ukraine played some excellent teams during the last round of international fixtures, but while they were able to get a win against Spain, they were beaten by both Germany and France. That game against France was one of the worst results that Ukraine have had for many years, as they were beaten 7-1 in Paris. However, they will take confidence from their recent win against Spain, as Viktor Tsyhankov scored the only goal of the game in that huge victory.
Poland vs Ukraine Head To Head
These sides match up well in the overall record, as they have both won on three occasions. Poland won the last meeting between the sides at Euro 2016, which remains the only win that they have achieved against Ukraine since 2000. Ukraine have won two of the previous three, with both victories coming in the qualification for the 2014 World Cup.
Poland vs Ukraine Prediction
This should be a tight fixture between two sides that will be dark horses at the European Championships next summer. However, Poland have the better quality in their squad, which means that it is hard to see past them getting the win in this friendly.
