Five games are scheduled to be played in the German Bundesliga on Saturday evening to bring the curtain down on the month of October. Top of the bill will be shown live on television to a bumper TV audience across Europe as Borussia Monchengladbach take on RB Leipzig from 17:30 GMT with armchair fans hoping for a competitive encounter.
Fans of German football who like to follow the stats when making their predictions will be interested to know the two games involving Borussia Monchengladbach and RB Leipzig last season produced a total of eight goals, including a 2-2 finish back in February at Red Bull Arena. Both teams have found the net at least once in each of the last three renewals.
Borussia unbeaten in four
Borussia Monchengladbach sit fifth in the Bundesliga table following a less than impressive start to their challenge. The locals have won two, drawn two and lost one game so far, scoring eight goals but conceding eight in the process. The coaching staff will realise most of their problems stem from a fragile backline and will aim to improve on that on the training field. Monchengladbach are unbeaten in their last four but have conceded six goals in their four games played already this month in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.
The home team beat Mainz last Saturday by the odd goal in five away from home. In what was an entertaining match, strikes from Stindl, Hofmann and Ginter was enough to better a double from Mateta who struck on 23 and 36 minutes. That followed a 2-2 draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League when Bensebaini and Hofmann were both on target.
RB top of the league
RB Leipzig began the week top of the Bundesliga table with 13 points on the board, ahead of nearest rivals Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. The visitors have won four and drawn one of their opening five league games, scoring a dozen goals while conceding only three. They are one of only three teams left unbeaten in this competition, the other two being Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen who are much further down the list.
Bulls have claimed victory in each of their last three games and bagged a hard-fought 2-1 over Hertha Berlin last Saturday, following a 2-0 at home against Istanbul in the Champions League. Goals from Upamecano and Sabitzer saw RB fight back from conceding a goal to Cordoba early in the contest but the victors were good value for their win.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs RB Leipzig prediction
Borussia enjoy a home advantage over the league leaders but must tighten their defence if they are to stop the march of their opponents. RB Leipzig have impressed during the opening exchanges of the season and will fancy their chances of gaining another three points.
