It hasn’t exactly been the title defence that Lille would have been hoping for so far this season. They are down in the bottom half of the standings, and have picked up less than half the points of the current leaders in Ligue 1. However, Monaco would have been hoping for better too, and they come into this game on the road having won once in their last four.
Lille’s title success was one of the huge shocks in Ligue 1 history, and evidence of just how far they were punching above their weight can be seen from their current position. They have won four from 13 games that they have played this season, and have lost on five occasions.
Their 16 points that they have picked up sees them sit six points outside of the Europa League places at present. They come into this game against Monaco without a win in four, but did draw their last fixture in Ligue 1 against Angers.
Monaco had started the season with some momentum, but that has disappeared in their last four fixtures. During their recent run, they have picked up just one win, and have been beaten on two occasions. However, their four-point gap to the Europa League places doesn’t yet rule them out of contention for one of the spots.
The hosts this weekend drew their last game before the international break, as they played out a 0-0 stalemate against Reims. That 0-0 draw was their second in quick succession in all competitions, as they also played out the same scoreline in a Europa League tie against PSV.
Monaco vs Lille Head to Head
Lille took four points from the two games that they played against Monaco last season. Their win in December ended a run of two straights wins for Monaco in this fixture and also ended their seven-game unbeaten run against Lille.

Monaco and Lille have been inconsistent at the start of this season, which makes this game a hard one to call. However, the hosts have been slightly more impressive when they have been at their best. It could go either way, but out preference is for a slender win for the home side.
