Just two rounds of fixtures remain in the Bundesliga before the break in play due to the World Cup. There will be an interesting fixture between two sides towards the bottom of the Bundesliga standings on Wednesday, as FC Köln welcome Bayer Leverkusen to town.

It hasn’t been the ideal start to the season for both Bayer Leverkusen and FC Köln, as they both find themselves towards the bottom of the standings in the Bundesliga. It has been very damaging of a start for Bayer Leverkusen, as they sit just a point above the bottom three teams in the standings, as they have picked up just three wins from 13 games this term.
The German side has at least showed signs of improvement over their previous five fixtures, as they have recorded two wins during that period. That includes a win in their previous fixture against Union Berlin. That was a stunning performance against the league-leaders, as Moussia Diaby scored a brace in a 5-0 win. FC Köln has fared slightly better over the early weeks of the season, as they currently sit 12th in the standings. However, they have gone three without a victory in the league, and have lost twice during that period. They have won just once in their previous five fixtures in the Bundesliga.
But, victory on Wednesday could lift them into the top half of the standings. Köln were easily beaten in their previous fixture, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat on the road against Freiburg. Both goals for the hosts in that victory were scored in the second half.

FC Köln has gone two without defeat against Leverkusen, which includes a 1-0 away win last season. However, Leverkusen still boast a very strong record, as they have landed victories in three of the previous five matches, which includes a 4-0 win on the road in December 2020.

This is an important fixture for both sides with the impending break in play for the World Cup. But, we think Leverkusen has turned a corner after their big win over the weekend, and we could see them backing that up with another victory on Wednesday.
