Valencia vs Sevilla Preview and Team News

Valencia Team News

Valencia’s term started as one of the likeliest teams to be relegated, but the appointment of Carlos Corberán saw “another season” from them. His men defeated Real Madrid at the Bernabéu for the first time in over fifteen years, a testament to Corberán’s coaching excellence.

Real Sociedad loanee Umar Sadiq has been one of the most important winter inclusions, as Valencia lacked a dominant player in the box.

Furthermore, Corberán maximised the potential of players like Javi Guerra and Mouctar Diakhaby to install an intense pressing scheme. He allowed the squad to play an expensive brand of football in possession. In the last eight events, Valencia only suffered one defeat, against Atlético de Madrid.

The 2-1 win against Madrid, thanks to a strike from Hugo Duro in additional time, is not the only result the team achieved against big sides in La Liga. Valencia drew with Villarreal in the Derbi de la Comunitat (1-1) and defeated Mallorca 1-0.

With two strikers ( Sadiq and Duro) at his disposal, the margin for rotations is wider than ever before.

Ivan Jaime and Thierry Correia are out due to injuries.

Sevilla Team News

Sevilla lost their third consecutive game with a 1-2 loss to Atlético de Madrid, despite opening the scoring through Agoumé in the 7th minute.

With Sevilla slipping to 13th in La Liga, the lack of success has stirred anger from fans, who threw several balls of paper on the pitch while it was still 1-1. Referee Soto Del Grado paused the match for a few seconds. This was nothing against Jan Oblak or any Atlético player, but a coordinated protest against Sevilla’s directives.

Fans yelled the names of two board members, Víctor Orta and Del Nido Jr.

Although García Pimienta has not been fired, a report by Relevo claimed that he may be sacked if the head coach fails to defeat Valencia on Friday. Pimienta defended his team in front of the media, claiming that they “are more than alive”

The club reacted to the protests through their official social media channels, calling the behaviour “unacceptable” of fans who tried to threaten Del Nido Jr.

Tanguy Nianzou and Rúben Vargas will be absent with an injury, and Juanlu Sánchez is awaiting a medical green light.

Valencia vs Sevilla Prediction

  • Prediction: Valencia to win
  • Odds: 2.39 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Valencia 1-0 Sevilla

The Mestalla has always been Valencia’s fortress. Even if Vargas recovers in time, he’ll not be at full fitness, which suggests Sevilla will find it difficult to score.

The visitors have only won one in the last five games, while Valencia have won three in the previous five. With a strong five-man backline and a reliable striker pairing, the hosts are expected to play a more dynamic brand of football.

It is, however, not expected to be a walk in the park, with Valencia last winning at the Mestalla against Sevilla in 2017. Over half of their recent meetings have ended in draws.

Valencia vs Sevilla Betting Tip

  • Pick: Umar Sadiq to score
  • Odds: 2.625 (22Bet)

Umar Sadiq has been everything Valencia needed in the first half of the season. His dominant physique, whether in strength or height, makes him an ideal target in the box for a La Liga side.

When few defenders can reach these heights, Sadiq becomes an easy alternative if the squad are out of ideas. In the worst of cases, he can serve as a decoy, freeing his teammates.
