Valencia vs Barcelona Preview and Team News

Valencia News

In recent weeks, Valencia have sent mixed signals. They conceded 7 to Barcelona, and head coach Carlos Corberan apologized to fans on social media for the poor performance. On the other hand, they’ve started winning again. They defeated Real Sociedad and won last weekend against Celta Vigo (2-1). A morale boost was needed after the 7-1 thrashing, which left the club in 19th place.

Valencia could count on an excellent Javi Guerra, who appeared between Celta Vigo’s defensive lines to disrupt through the center. His involvement was key in energizing a team that had just suffered a heavy loss to Barcelona. Fans were also full of enthusiasm after seeing Mouctar Diakhaby return from injury.

With the Winter transfer window about to close, Valencia have been linked with Marseille midfielder Ismael Koné. The player is said to have given his verbal agreement, but club president Pablo Longoria wants to find a replacement before agreeing to a deal. The move is expected to be a loan deal without a purchase option.

Thierry Correia remains sidelined. Javier Guerra limped off in the 80th minute against Celta Vigo and will likely miss the Barcelona match.

Valencia predicted lineup vs Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Mamardashvili; Gayà, Mosquera, Tárrega, Foulquier; Barrenechea, Pepelu; Rioja, Almeida, Diego López; Hugo Duro.

Barcelona Team News

Barcelona’s La Liga title hopes received a boost after Espanyol’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid, leaving them four points behind their rivals. They were sloppy but defeated Deportivo Alavés in a match where most players seemed nervous.

The first half saw Barcelona’s plans cancelled by their opponents as Alavés used a compact defensive formation, forcing them to play wide. Hansi Flick’’s buildup was disrupted by their goalkeeper frequently opting for long clearances. Alejandro Baldé’s underperformance as the only wide outlet made matters even more difficult.

The squad appeared fatigued, likely due to their demanding match against Atalanta. Barcelona were held to a draw (2-2) as the backline struggled to withstand the opposition’s high-pressure system. As a consequence, Flick switched up his tactic in the second half against Alavés.

Lamine Yamal completed 11 dribbles, becoming the youngest player to do so in La Liga history.

Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Dani Olmo. Marc-André Ter Stegen and Pablo Gavira remain sidelined due to injuries. Gavi left the pitch injured, but a diagnosis hasn’t been made available yet.

Barcelona predicted lineup vs Valencia (4-2-3-1): Szczęsny; Balde, Cubarsí, Araújo, Koundé; Casadó, Pedri; De Jong, Raphinha, Lewandowski; Lamine Yamal.

Valencia vs Barcelona Prediction

  • Prediction: Barcelona to win
  • Odds: 1.485 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Valencia 0-4 Barcelona

These two teams played each other a week ago, resulting in a disastrous 7-1 defeat for Valencia. Corberan’s squad struggles to defend in a compact block, which is the ideal set-up for Barcelona to score. Although it’s unlikely to be another goalfest, it would be surprising to see the hosts come out victorious, despite playing at home.

Given that this is the Copa del Rey, the guests will come motivated to the match, especially after being warned by Alavés that they cannot afford to be complacent.

Barcelona are unbeaten in their last nine games and have not lost to Valencia in their previous ten meetings.

Valencia vs Barcelona Betting Tip

  • Pick: Lamine Yamal to score
  • Odds: 3.15 (22Bet)

Although it would seem logical to bet on Lewandowski after scoring against Alavés, Lamine Yamal remains our favourite. Considering Valencia’s struggles to close spaces down when defending, this is the ideal scenario for Yamal to attack and score.
