The Rennes vs Marseille clash will see two sides equally determined to win the ball as often as possible. Rennes are ranked in the 13th position of the league table with just 17 points to their name but will want to move upwards.
Nothing will make a more significant statement in French football circles than their victory over Les Phocéens on Saturday. However, for that to happen, they’ll have to play a possession-based style of football.

Playing with three men in defence and three at the top has often given Rennes a lot of confidence. They’ll hope their four-man midfield manages to thwart any opportunities their attackers try to create when building play.
Rennes know that they’ll have to be solid in defence and not allow any stray balls to fall loosely. Goalkeeper and captain Mandanda will have to shepherd his troops wisely from the back.
Marseille
Marseille, known for more than the way Mason Greenwood is playing, are currently ranked second in the league table with 33 points.
They’ll do their best to unseat Paris Saint-Germain from the top of the standings, although the two teams are separated by seven points at this stage of the season. Les Phocéens, however, are known for their brilliant attacking runs, and we expect to see a lot of that play in this game.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men try to overload one wing in order to create pressure on their opposition defenders. They may not be necessary against Rennes, whose defenders have been known to hold their shape no matter what.
Instead, Marseille will try to keep the ball with them and slow things down as much as they can. If they do so, Les Rouge et Noir will have to come at them, leaving spaces in defence that the visitors can exploit.

Injuries to Rubén Blanco and Valentín Carboni may hamper Marseille somewhat. However, the presence of Greenwood, Maupay, and Rabiot in the attack is bound to give them the advantage. Rennes will not be able to put up much of a fight if they don’t keep tabs on how this trio fares in this encounter.
