Leganés vs Girona Preview and Team News

Leganés Team News

Leganés started the season as a one-sided yet challenging team in La Liga, deploying a low-block with success. The 1-0 victory against Barcelona demonstrated that they could defend a lead against the best.

However, things have gone downhill since the injuries of key players, which have resulted in Leganés’ return to the relegation zone. The club are 19th out of 20 in La Liga, without a win in their last six games. Their last victory was in early March when they defeated Getafe 1-0.

Leganés drew 0-0 with Mallorca, ceding possession but effectively closing down space, forcing the rivals to find creative solutions. The match could have gone either way, with both sides carving out occasional chances.

Borna Barišić, Enrique Franquesa, Matija Nastasić, and Yvan Neyou Noupa will be out due to injuries.

Girona Team News

Girona’s season marked one of the sharpest downfalls of any team in Spain in recent years. Michel’s side have endured a dramatic fall. They’ve gone from a third-place finish last season to a relegation scrap this time around, despite having featured in the Champions League earlier this term.

The squad lost 3-1 to Real Betis last weekend after being down 3-0 by half-time. A lack of belief and tensions between the players and head coach Michel have become increasingly apparent. Players struggle to cope once they fall behind. Girona have battled to replace Artem Dovbyk and Savinho. Signings with Asprilla, Danjuma, and Abel Ruiz have failed to make a meaningful impact.

Girona are winless in thirteen matches, with their latest success back in early February, a 2-1 win over Las Palmas. They sit 15th in La Liga, with only three points separating them from the relegation zone. Still, head coach Michel insists he’s not concerned about being sacked or an eventual relegation. According to him, the problem is not tactical, arguing that ‘‘the team is soulless”.

The club lost 1-0 to Alavés before Easter, a crucial defeat as the latter are 16th. There are less than 10 games left until the end of the season, which will reveal whether Girona can survive or are doomed to return to the Segunda.

Bryan Gil and Ricard Artero are sidelined with injuries.

Leganés vs Girona Prediction

  • Prediction: Leganés to win
  • Odds: 2.775 (22Bet)
  • Score Prediction: Leganés 1-0 Girona

Butarque is a special place. Leganés have often achieved better results at home, where their compact block leads to effective counter-attack, and opponents are overwhelmed by their supporters. The hosts need the points as much as Girona, and there will be few teams who could fit them better.

The visitors have struggled defensively and lacked the attacking threat to justify their offensive risks. If Leganés manage to strike first, they’ll likely be able to sit deep and punish Girona on the break.

Leganés vs Girona Betting Tip

  • Pick: Daniel Raba to score
  • Odds: 3.2 (22Bet)

Raba may not always start, but he’s proven to be efficient at finding the back of the net. A glance at the stats confirms he’s Leganés’ top scorer, having netted seven times this season.

The talent last scored against Osasuna (1-1) and netted twice against Real Betis. He may not be a striker, but his involvement on the right wing due to his pragmatism makes him an essential piece for Leganés in counterattacks.

Given Girona’s defensive fragility out wide, even a single mistake could give Raba the chance to show what he can do.
