Juventus vs AC Milan Preview
Juventus
Juventus are in yet another turmoil after the 2-2 draw to Fiorentina last weekend. Khéphren Thuram scored a brace, giving his team a 2-1 lead until the end…or almost.
Moise Kean scored for La Viola, and the Old Lady seemed to be over the worst until Riccardo Sottil scored the equalizer in the 87th minute, assisted by Kean. This marked Juventus’ 11th draw in 18 Serie A games, raising questions about the direction of Thiago Motta’s project.

His team are the only side to remain undefeated but sit in 6th place with 32 points, 9 points behind the league leader Atalanta. This stat isn’t as telling as the fact that Juventus only won three matches in November and December.
Thiago Motta is aware of the situation, lamenting that his team had the third goal within reach, but the issue lay with their offence.
Arkadiusz Milik and Timothy Weah were missing, and many fans have pointed out that relying on the inconsistent Dušan Vlahović for goals explains much of the team’s struggles.

The club has been linked with several forwards for the January transfer window, including Napoli attacker Giacomo Raspadori. They’ve also considered Kolo Muani, though his salary remains an issue. Patrik Schick is another option in case other deals fall through.
Bremer and Juan Cabal remain sidelined, while Jonas Rouhi and Timothy Weah are also out with injuries and will miss the clash with AC Milan.

AC Milan
AC Milan sacked Paulo Fonseca on Sunday after a 1-1 draw with AS Roma, sparking outrage from fans. Some comments read ‘Vergogna’ (shame), claiming that ‘Fonseca is one of us (fans), humiliated by the club.’
More than the decision itself, it’s the timing that leaves fans furious. It would have been more sensible to fire Fonseca a week earlier when there was more time for preparation during the eight-day break. Furthermore, Fonseca lasted only about 200 days, slightly less than six months.

The club has already announced Fonseca’s replacement. Portuguese coach Sérgio Conceição will leave Porto after seven years.
Milan currently rank 8th in Serie A, with 27 points from 18 matches. They’re five points behind 6th-placed Juventus, which hold the last spot for European qualification. The Old Lady’s season is slightly better in the Champions League, with four wins and six losses.

Arkadiusz Milik’s would have been my pick had he not been injured, so it’ll fall back on midfielder Manuel Locatelli. While many players struggle with consistency, Locatelli ensures a smooth transition between attack and defence.
He struggled to progress in the final years of Allegri’s tenure, but he’s found himself again since Thiago Motta arrived.
Thuram’s inclusion also helped him, as he provides a defensive cover when he’s involved higher up the pitch. Locatelli provided assists against Fiorentina and Monza, demonstrating his attacking involvement despite playing as a midfielder in a double pivot.

As for Milan, the obvious choice would have been Rafael Leão, one of the best wingers at the moment. However, his absence leads me to pick Tijjani Reijnders, who has been one of the players to benefit the most from Fonseca’s appointment.
The Dutchman plays as an upper midfielder at the centre of the Old Lady’s transitions. He has consistently provided his teammates with assists or scored himself, making him the team’s best player of the season so far. Tijjani scored in the last two matches, which includes Milan’s only goal against AS Roma.

Juventus vs AC Milan Analysis
Juventus benefit from a more solid collective approach but struggle significantly on the attacking end. Thiago Motta has found it difficult to adapt to his new squad, which has resulted in a rigid side that doesn’t benefit from this methodology.
It remains unknown how Milan’s new coach will approach the game with only four days of preparation. However, looking at their season so far, it seems likely they’ll play more direct football. They’ll rely on individual talents like Reijnders for transitions rather than a collective methodology.
Juventus vs AC Milan Prediction
- Football pick: Juventus to win
- Odds: 2.3 (22Bet)
- Score prediction: Juventus 1-0 AC Milan
With the match taking place in Saudi Arabia, there is no home advantage for either team to rely on. Under such conditions, Thiago Motta’s rigid football may benefit from less pressure to perform from the fans. Additionally, it helps the collective approach the match with certainty.
On the other hand, it’s difficult to bet on Milan, having just switched coach and only giving Fonseca’s successor four days of preparation. His tactics are radically different, which is why Juventus are expected to win from my end.
Juventus vs AC Milan Betting Tip
- Football Pick: Manuel Locatelli to score
- Odds: 13 (22Bet)
Locatelli is no forward, nor is he a high-scoring midfielder, but he is one of the team’s smartest footballers. Against a team that lacks fundamentals, Locatelli benefits from a rigid system where he’s given more freedom than his teammates.
Adding to that, Milan’s defensive struggles, which were already visible during Fonseca’s tenure, make it likely to see Locatelli score.
