Ipswich vs Crystal Palace Preview

Ipswich

Kieran McKenna will see this week’s showdown against Crystal Palace as a must-win clash as Ipswich chase a first home league win since returning to the top-flight. The Tractor Boys were denied a deserved point over the weekend after losing 1-0 at Nottingham Forest.

Despite that, Ipswich have lost just once in their last four Premier League outings. Going forward, Ipswich have been eye-catching to this point, scoring eleven goals from an xG of 12.37, with much of their attacking threat coming via Liam Delap, who is outscoring his xG of 5.06 after netting six in 13 outings.

Defensively, Ipswich have allowed 19 goals from open play from an xGA of 27.16. McKenna will be without a number of key players this week, with Kalvin Phillips, Axel Tuanzebe, and Ben Johnson all doubtful for Tuesday’s showdown.

Crystal Palace

Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace picked up a deserved home draw against Newcastle in the previous round, scoring late to secure a 1-1 draw, despite averaging an xG of 2.30, which was far superior to the metric recorded by the Magpies

Failing to outscore their xG has been an issue throughout the season, as they have netted just six goals from open play from a metric of 15.29. Defensively, they have improved, allowing 15 goals from an xGA of 17.15.

Palace have a clear threat from setpieces, outscoring their xG of 0.78 with two goals already. Glasner will once again be without a number of key stars this week, as Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton will miss out due to injury.

Ipswich vs Crystal Palace Prediction

  • Pick: Ipswich to Win
  • Odds: 2.86 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Ipswich 2-1 Crystal Palace

There will be huge pressure on McKenna’s side to get maximum points on Tuesday, as defeat could leave them with a mountain to climb in the battle to avoid relegation.

The Tractor Boys have already shown in home matches that they can excel, including recently when playing out a 1-1 draw against Man United. If they dictate the pace of the game as they did on that day, they look good value to upset the odds against a Palace side ravaged by injuries.

It only furthers their claims to be a winning Ipswich vs Crystal Palace prediction that the Tractor Boys have won two of their last three home matches against the Eagles.

Ipswich vs Crystal Palace Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Ipswich to Receive the Most Yellow Cards
  • Odds: 2.15 (22Bet)

Discipline has been a huge issue for McKenna’s side throughout the season, with only Chelsea and Southampton averaging more yellow cards this term. Ipswich have averaged 2.92 cards per match, higher than the average of 2.31 recorded by Palace. In fact, the Tractor Boys have had over 4.5 cards in 54% of their matches this season.

Meanwhile, an alternative bet could come in the form of Liam Delap to score. The striker has been the standout star for Ipswich this term, netting six in 13 and recording seven goal involvements. Delap averaged 1.93 shots per 90, and has an Ipswich-leading xG of 5.06.
