Fulham vs Aston Villa Preview

Fulham

Fulham has been a surprise in the current season, with Marco Silva’s team currently in eighth place, just three points behind the Champions League zone. The Cottagers are also in second place in the table for expected points and expected goals conceded in the Premier League.

The London club has shown an ability at the start of the season to create quality positional attacks with triangular combinations on the flanks, as well as the ability to launch quick vertical attacks.

Adama Traoré has been particularly impressive on the right wing, demonstrating remarkable speed and dribbling in every match, as well as delivering great crosses into the penalty area. Additionally, Raúl Jiménez has returned to his pre-injury level of play.

Don’t forget that Traoré and Jiménez played together at Wolverhampton a few years ago and were one of the most productive pairings in the Premier League, putting Wolves in the top 7 and in the Europa League.

Additionally, Alex Iwobi, Emile Smith Rowe, and Andreas Pereira are creative and versatile players who can play in multiple attacking positions, creating chances with clever penetrating passes.

Saša Lukić has not only replaced Palhinha in the holding midfielder position but also provided his team with excellent forward passes from deep.

It’s interesting to note that Fulham often utilises a strong, organised press in the defensive phase and can effectively defend in a low block, as we saw in the match against Manchester City.

All three of City’s goals were scored with long-range shots, which arguably involved a fair share of luck.

Overall, based on the dangerous chances created, Marco Silva’s team deserved to win this match more than the reigning Premier League champions. This confirms that Fulham is currently one of the best clubs in the Premier League in terms of quality of play.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s recent performance in the Premier League has been rather weak, with two draws in their last two matches.

They drew 2-2 against Ipswich away and 0-0 at home against Manchester United. This could be attributed to the team’s focus on the upcoming Champions League match against Bayern Munich, where Unai Emery’s team showed their best game.

Earlier in the season, Villa secured four victories against teams from the lower part of the league table: West Ham (2-1), Leicester (2-1), Everton (3-2), and Wolverhampton (3-1).

In these matches, Aston Villa scored goals mainly thanks to the outstanding performance of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, and Jhon Durán. However, we shouldn’t underestimate the contributions of Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne, who also greatly progressed the ball into the opponent’s half.

The Villa has frequently encountered defensive problems, such as in the match against Ipswich, which resulted in a 2-2 draw.

I’m quite intrigued to see how Unai Emery’s team will fare against tough opponents like Fulham before the Champions League matches. Will Villa save their energy for European nights or aim for maximum results in the Premier League?

In this context, the return from injury of players such as John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey, Amadou Onana, and Ezri Konsa is particularly important. With them, Villa will find it much easier to earn points in the upcoming matches.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Prediction

  • Pick: 1X (Fulham won`t lose)
  • Odds: 1.45 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Fulham 2-1 Aston Villa

Fulham has shown strong performances in recent home matches, displaying great intensity and excellent organisation in all aspects of the game. The home team’s attacking line may exploit Aston Villa’s weaknesses in transitioning from attack to defence and the vulnerability of the guest’s full-backs.

By the way, Aston Villa may struggle to construct their positional attacks, so they may focus on playing long passes to Ollie Watkins. The English forward could significantly impact his team.

The Unai Emery team faces a tough away Champions League match against Bologna, so they will likely try to conserve their energy. Fulham, on the other hand, doesn’t have such concerns, so they are likely to demonstrate their maximum game speed.

Regardless, Fulham appears to be the favorite in the match and, in my opinion, will not lose, at least in this encounter.

Fulham vs Aston Villa Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Fulham Total Over 0.5
  • Odds: 1.21 (22Bet)

Aston Villa has conceded nine goals and ranks tenth for goals conceded in the current season. This is largely due to regular individual errors made by defenders this season.

Fulham may not score that many goals, ranking tenth in this regard, but starting from the second round, Marco Silva’s team consistently scores at least one goal per match. Considering that the Cottagers will be playing at home, it’s quite possible that they will score at least one goal.
