Fulham vs Watford Preview

Fulham

Fulham come into the third round weekend of the FA Cup in excellent form after going eight without defeat in the Premier League. Marco Silva’s team also have an outstanding record of navigating the opening rounds of the cup competition after reaching the fourth round in each of the last five seasons.

However, Fulham have looked defensively vulnerable in their latest matches, allowing five goals across their last three. Most recently, they played out a 2-2 draw against Ipswich. But it is worth noting that they’ll be coming up against lesser opposition on Thursday.

Silva’s men have been dynamic in the final third throughout the season, scoring 25 goals from an xG of 24.88. But Watford’s youthful forward line should get chances at Craven Cottage. Fulham’s open nature has seen them concede an xGA of 18.75 this season, allowing 22 goals from open play. Raul Jimenez may be rested on Thursday, while Emile Smith Rowe could be recalled.

Watford

Tom Cleverley deserves credit for the job that he’s doing at Vicarage Road this season. He guided Watford back to within striking distance of the playoff spots after a losing campaign in 2023-24.

Their 5-3-2 formation caused issues for free-scoring Sheffield United on Saturday, and the Hornets boast pace on the counter that can hurt their opponents. Cleverley’s men have recorded an average xG of 1.29 this season, scoring an impressive 35 goals in the second tier.

It could be worth noting that Watford are yet to keep a clean sheet on the road in the Championship. This week, the club will be without first-choice goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann due to a knee injury. Jonathan Bond is expected to deputize.

Fulham vs Watford Prediction

  • Pick: The Draw
  • Odds: 5.65 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Fulham 1-1 Watford

Fulham are an incredibly short price because they are the Premier League side in this tie. But there are enough reasons to take them on when making a Fulham vs. Watford prediction.

The visitors’ tightly compacted 5-3-2 formation may cause issues for the home club, who became frustrated against an Ipswich side playing a similar tactic on Sunday. Discipline will be needed for Watford to force a replay, but there’s evidence to suggest they’re capable of achieving that.

The trends point to a draw, with each of the last three meetings between the teams requiring a replay to determine the side in the fourth round.

Fulham vs Watford Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Pick: Both Teams to Score
  • Odds: 1.96 (22Bet)

Both clubs to score on Thursday could be an eye-catching price. Watford have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road this season and conceded an average xGA of 1.54. Meanwhile, Fulham scored an average of 1.64 goals at Craven Cottage this season, but they’ve only kept clean sheets in 9% of their matches.

An interesting goalscorer angle could come in the form of Kwadwo Baah. The 21-year-old has the pace required to get behind the Fulham backline on Thursday, and he’s already scored five in 25 outings this term. Kwadwo Baah has attempted 21 shots this season in the Championship and has accumulated an xG of 2.62.
