Arsenal vs Brighton Preview

Arsenal

Arsenal kicked off the new season with victories over Wolverhampton (2-0) and Aston Villa (2-0). In both matches, the Gunners effectively organized their positional defense in medium-high and medium-low blocks, thwarting their opponents’ attempts to create scoring opportunities.

However, Arsenal struggled during transitions from attack to defense, with Aston Villa having several chances to score. Morgan Rogers’ speedy bursts in the center of the field posed particular challenges for Arteta’s team, bypassing Thomas Partey and Declan Rice.

On the offensive end, Bukayo Saka shone in the first two rounds, registering two assists and a beautiful goal against Wolverhampton. Despite his strong performance, he was unable to score against Aston Villa due to the outstanding play of Emiliano Martínez.

Most of Arsenal’s dangerous attacks in the first two matches originated from the right flank, while the left flank, involving Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice, lacked coordination and synergy. Perhaps Mikel Merino’s transfer to Arsenal could enhance the team’s left flank.

There is a possibility that Leandro Trossard, who scored a crucial goal against Aston Villa, may start as the left winger in the next match. Unlike Martinelli, Trossard was successful in finding space behind the Villa defenders and delivering dangerous passes into the penalty area.

Trossard also displayed strong pressing abilities and clinical finishing in recent pre-season games.

Brighton

Brighton’s new coach, Fabian Hurzeler, surprised many by winning the first two Premier League matches of the season. They first defeated Everton 3-0 away and then won 2-1 against Manchester United at home.

Brighton appeared incredibly organized in both matches, capable of creating significant tactical problems for their opponents and capitalizing on defensive mistakes.

In the match against Manchester United, Brighton played in a 4-2-3-1 / 2-3-5 formation, with two forwards, Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh, playing in wide positions on the flanks. Meanwhile, James Milner, João Pedro, and Danny Welbeck actively found space between the lines in the central zone, frequently interchanging positions and causing confusion for United’s midfielders. Additionally, Jack Hinshelwood regularly shifted to the center, creating extra pressure in the midfield.

Brighton’s attacking capabilities allowed them to create numerical advantages of 5v4 against their opponents’ defense at any moment, executing swift, multi-pass combinations in both matches.

In the defensive phase, Brighton formed a very compact 4-4-2 shape, occasionally applying strong pressing on their opponents. Their defensive line was exceptionally high and organized, leading to seven offsides against Everton and six against Manchester United.

However, in the second half, Manchester United initiated several quick attacks using rapid passes behind Brighton’s players, resulting in potential scoring opportunities. A similar situation occurred in the match against Everton, where they could have scored 2-3 goals with better conversion of their chances.

It is possible that Ferdi Kadioglu, a new addition to Brighton from Fenerbahce, will participate in the upcoming match against Arsenal.

Arsenal vs Brighton Head-to-Head Statistics

Since Brighton’s promotion to the English Premier League in 2017, the two teams have faced each other 14 times. Arsenal won six games, and interestingly, Brighton also won six, with only two matches ending in a draw.

However, last season, Arsenal confidently won both encounters, securing a 3-0 victory away and a 2-0 win at the Emirates.

Overall, at home, Arsenal has won and lost three times each in the Premier League, including a loss at the Emirates in the League Cup match in 2022.

Arsenal vs Brighton Player Focus

Ben White, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Ødegaard form a key attacking trio on the left flank for the Gunners. These players were the most effective at creating dangerous moments last season and have continued to do so at the start of this season.

On the other side, Danny Welbeck and João Pedro are sure to cause Arsenal problems with their unpredictable movements between the lines.

Arsenal vs Brighton Preview, Tactical Analysis

A key tactical task for Arsenal will be to exploit the space behind Brighton’s high defensive line. Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard could make well-timed runs into the penalty area in such situations.

It will be interesting to see how Brighton attempts to break Arsenal’s pressing by using quick combinations and creating overloads in the center of the field.

Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction

  • Football Pick: 1X (Arsenal won`t lose) And Total Over 1.5 – Yes
  • Odds: 1.27 (22Bet)
  • Score prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Brighton

Fabian Hurzeler’s team is in excellent form and could pose significant problems for Arsenal. Moreover, in their head-to-head matchups, Arsenal has never won three consecutive matches against Brighton in the Premier League.

Therefore, I choose the option where Arsenal does not lose and more than one goal is scored in the match, which is quite likely given the attacking potential of both teams.

Arsenal vs Brighton Prediction, Betting Tip

  • Football Pick: Total Shots. Bukayo Saka Over 1.5
  • Odds: 1.28 (22Bet)

Bukayo Saka will likely make regular runs behind Brighton defender Jack Hinshelwood on the left flank and could be successful on his home turf.

In my opinion, Saka will have more than one shot in the home game and could very well contribute with another assist or goal.
