Who Will Clinch Gold in the Paris 2024 Women’s Singles Tennis Tournament?

Who Will Clinch Gold in the Paris 2024 Women’s Singles Tennis Tournament?

Giorgi Natsvlishvili Giorgi Natsvlishvili

The quest for Olympic gold in the Women’s Singles Tennis at Paris 2024 is in full swing with ⅛ finals coming up. After two rounds of intense competition, we have seen the top two seeds advance to the next stage. The remaining draw leaves us with a lot of excitement to come.

Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek has been a dominant player on the WTA tour since 2022. In 2024 alone, she boasts an impressive record of 38 wins with only four losses. She also clinched four titles, including a prestigious victory at Roland Garros.

The Paris 2024 Olympics marks Swiatek’s debut in singles competition at the Games. At Tokyo 2020, she participated in doubles, reaching the quarterfinals.

Given her formidable form this year, especially her dominance on clay – her preferred surface where she has consistently dispatched competitors in straight sets – Swiatek is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the Olympic gold medal.

Donna Vekic

Unexpectedly, Donna Vekic managed to beat Coco Gauf in the round of 16 in straights sets. The Croatian tennis player proved that she is also able to produce sensations and deliver strong performances when it matters the most.

Vekic is not the strongest player on the court. Her best result was in 2019 when she reached the fourth round of Roland Garros. However, she has improved a lot this year.

While the dynamics of the French Open and the Olympics differ, Vekic’s strong performance on clay at this tournament gives her a chance at securing her first Olympic gold medal.

Barbora Krejčíková

Barbora Krejčíková is another contender with a tenacious and aggressive playing style – a requirement when playing on clay courts. She is also known for her swift speed and extensive court coverage.

In 2024, she already played 23 games and won 14 of them. In the first two rounds of the Olympics, she confidently progressed to the next stage without hesitation, signalling her readiness to challenge top-tier competitors. While she may not be the frontrunner like Gauff or Swiatek, with her skill set, she will not be an easy opponent for any player.

Angelique Kerber

Veteran Angelique Kerber, once ranked No.1, brings a wealth of experience to the court. At the age of 36, she is still competing, though her recent form may not mirror her peak years.

Notably, Kerber clinched a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics, narrowly missing gold in a surprising loss to Monica Puig. Paris 2024 is possibly her final appearance on the Olympic stage and her last chance to win the elusive title.
