The round of 16 at the European Championships gets underway on Saturday, as Wales and Denmark clash for a quarterfinal spot in Amsterdam.
EURO 2020 Preview
Team Denmark
Wales and Denmark have both done extremely well to reach this stage of the competition with the difficulties that they have needed to overcome. The Danes will be the pick for many neutrals in the competition, as they have fought back after horrific scenes in their opening game with Christian Eriksen collapsing on the pitch.
They also became the first team in the history of the competition to lose both of their opening two group stage games but still progress through to the knockout rounds. They were spurred on by a passionate home support in their final group game, as they hammered Russia 4-1 in Copenhagen to book their spot in the round of 16.
It was a pulsating night of action, as the Danes blew the Russians away. Mikkel Damsgaard got the ball rolling with a stunning strike before the break, while Yussuf Poulsen doubled the lead 15 minutes into the second half. An Andreas Christensen scorcher made it 3-1 after the Russians had scored a penalty, while the impressive Joakim Maehle extended the lead with eight minutes remaining.
Team Wales
Wales also deserve immense credit for their performances throughout the group stage, as they were written off by many before the start of the tournament. However, they took four points from three games to seal second place in the group. They were beaten in their final group game by Italy in Rome, but credit could have been taken from the performance that they put in. They had their chance to equalise late in the game, but Gareth Bale struck a volley over the top of the bar. However, they will come into this round of 16 game with confidence that they can continue their love affair with the European Championships.
Wales vs Denmark Head to Head
A draw could be the most unlikely result this weekend, as there hasn’t been a tie between these two sides in the last ten meetings. Denmark have won six times, while Wales have won four. Denmark won the last meeting between the countries 2-1 in the Nations League. Meanwhile, the Danes have won the last three competitive fixtures between the countries.
Wales vs Denmark Prediction
A case could be made for both these countries. However, Denmark are a nation that are playing their best football, and have an excellent record against Wales. The Welsh also haven’t won in Amsterdam in two previous occasions, and we find it hard to see them ending that run.
Wales is priced to win at 5.25 odds, while Denmark is the betting odds favorite at 1.816 at 22Bet. Check out the betting odds markets and bet on the match with 22Bet!
