Uganda Premier League 2026/27 Review — Table, Top Scorers & Predictions After Four Matchweeks
Four matchweeks into the first 18-club Uganda Premier League season, the early table looks nothing like the pre-season predictions. BUL FC, ninth last term, lead with four wins from four. Champions Vipers SC are seventh with a game in hand and are already out of the CAF Champions League. The league now pauses for AFCON 2027 qualifying before returning on 7 October.

The table is uneven. Eleven clubs have played four matches. Kitara have played two and Vipers three after fixtures were rescheduled around continental commitments, while URA, Mbarara City, Kataka and Kigezi HomeBoyz are also a game short. Ntugasaze have already played five as one match was pulled forward.
BUL FC lead on 12 points from four wins, two clear of NEC and SC Villa. Of the pre-season top three, only Villa have delivered. KCCA sit 11th on four points with one goal scored in four matches. Vipers are seventh, but a game under the belt and a goal difference of plus five make that position misleading.

Basangwa leads with four goals in three appearances, and he scored in the win over KCCA that set the tone for NEC's unbeaten start. Byabacwezi has the best strike rate of the leading scorers at 1.50 per game, and with Achidi also on three, BUL supply two of the division's three leading scorers.
The assist chart is barely worth calling a chart. Ssenyonga of URA, Lubwama (who won Young Player of the Season at UPDF in the previous season) of NEC and Acire of Blacks Power lead it with one apiece. This says more about incomplete early-season data than about creativity — 68 goals have been scored across the division so far.
Last season's Golden Boot went to Ivan Ahimbisibwe of KCCA with 14 goals from 30 matchdays. Basangwa is comfortably ahead of that rate over a 34-match campaign, though four matchweeks is far too small a sample to project from.
Uganda Premier League Predictions 2026/27 — Which Teams Are Potential Winners?
BUL FC. Four wins from four, 11 scored and three conceded, and the only perfect record in the division. Byabacwezi and Achidi give them a scoring threat the chasing clubs lack, and they have already won 4-1 twice. Sustaining this across 34 matchdays is the question — BUL finished ninth last season, 30 points behind the champions.
NEC FC. Unbeaten with nine scored and two conceded, they announced themselves by beating KCCA 2-0 at Lugogo on the opening weekend. NEC went 18 matches unbeaten last season before losing 4-1 to SC Villa on matchday 29, climbing out of the bottom half to finish fifth. Basangwa's four goals make them the most convincing of the early pace-setters.
Vipers SC. The champions lost at home to Entebbe UPPC on opening night, their first defeat at Kitende since 2024, and were then eliminated from the CAF Champions League by FC Nouadhibou on away goals after a 1-1 draw at home and a goalless second leg in Mauritania. That exit removes the fixture congestion that disrupted their start. With a game in hand and one goal conceded in three matches, they remain the side to beat.
Verdict: Vipers. Two wins and a defeat is not a title-winning return, but the defeat came on opening night before a continental campaign that is now over, and SC Villa matched their single goal conceded. Free of Africa, with a game in hand and the deepest squad in Uganda, they are the favourites. NEC look the most credible challengers.
Dark horse: Blacks Power, fourth on nine points as newly promoted FUFA Big League champions.
Uganda Premier League Players and Games — Biggest Early Surprises
Biggest overperformer: BUL FC. Ninth last season, top now. Their 4-1 demolition of Ntugasaze at the FUFA Technical Centre. Swabiru Mpasa opened on ten minutes; Martin Aprem restored the lead on 43 after Fahad Nsamba had equalised, then Reagan Kalyowa and Simon Achidi added two more in the last quarter. It was the clearest statement of the opening month, and they repeated the scoreline away at Kataka.
Biggest underperformer: KCCA FC. Last season's runners-up have one goal in four matches. They lost 2-0 at home to NEC on matchday one, then 2-0 to Express. Eleventh place and a minus-three goal difference is not a slow start; it is a scoring crisis.
Biggest upset: Vipers SC 0-1 Entebbe UPPC, matchday one. A Kevin Dasylva own goal in the 32nd minute, turning Thomas Ochungu's cross into his own net, handed the champions a home defeat on the opening night. None of the big five (Vipers, Villa, KCCA, Express or Kitara) won that weekend.
Uganda Premier League Relegated Teams — Who Is in Danger?
Ntugasaze FC are bottom with no points from five matches, two scored, and 14 conceded. The newly promoted side shipped four at BUL, three to Maroons and three more to Vipers on 19 September. Their goal difference of minus 12 is eight worse than any other club.
Kigezi HomeBoyz have one point from three, with one goal scored and five conceded. Also newly promoted, they have yet to win and have managed a single goal in over 270 minutes of football.
Kataka FC sit 16th on an identical record of one point, one goal for, five against. Three of the four promoted clubs fill the bottom three positions, which is the pattern most expected from an expanded league.
Uganda Premier League Fixtures 2026/27 — Matchweek 5 Return
The league pauses for the AFCON 2027 qualifying window from 21 September to 6 October. Uganda travel to Tunisia on Thursday 24 September and host Libya on Tuesday 29 September, with Botswana due at home on 11 November.
As co-hosts in June 2027, the Cranes are already assured of their place, so these qualifiers function as squad auditions rather than survival matches. Clubs across the division lose players for the duration.
Action resumes with matchday five on 7 October. Blacks Power host Vipers SC at Hoima Stadium in the pick of the round, a fourth-placed side against the champions. Kataka face SC Villa at Bukedea, and NEC meet Express at the MTN Omondi Stadium on 8 October.
The Kampala derby between URA and KCCA follows on 9 October at Hamz Stadium.
