Their most likely route through is by finishing as one of the best-placed thirds. However, even a victory may not be enough for them to secure that spot, as they will be relying on other sides faltering. They offered very little, and few would argue that they didn’t deserve a hammering at the hands of the Italians.
Turkey were considered by many as a potential dark horse that could do well in the competition this summer. However, their chances of achieving anything of note have gone up in smoke, as they have lost both of their opening two games. They have conceded five goals, and are yet to hit the back of the net. They were much better against Wales, but when compared to their performance against Italy, that wasn’t particularly difficult. Wales were deserving winners against the Turks in Baku, as they ran out 2-0 winners. Turkey’s hopes of qualifying are effectively over, as they have a negative five-goal difference, which means even a win on the final day may not be enough.

Turkey have a great recent record against Switzerland, as they have won three of the last four. Their only defeat came in Switzerland in a World Cup qualifier in 2005. The last meeting between the nations came at EURO 2008, as Turkey won 2-1.
