RB Leipzig will be back in Bundesliga action on Friday, as they play their first match at the Red Bull Arena this term. Marco Rose will be expecting a response from his side after they were defeated by Bayer Leverkusen in their opener. However, Stuttgart look capable of posing big questions of the hosts.
Bundesliga Preview
There was huge confidence surrounding RB Leipzig ahead of their opening match of the new season, as the German club went into their opener after easing to a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Super Cup final. However, that positive momentum was quickly brought to a halt in their Bundesliga opener against Leverkusen, as Leipzig trailed 2-0 after the opening 35 minutes.
The visitors threatened to make a game of it before the break, as Dani Olmo pulled a goal back. However, Leverkusen extended their advantage early in the second half. Lois Openda scored a second for Leipzig, but they weren’t able to fashion a late chance to steal a point in their opening match of the new season.
Stuttgart made a hugely impressive statement on the opening weekend of the season, as they landed a huge 5-0 home win against Bochum. It was a clinical display by the German side, with Serhou Guirassy and Silas Katompa Mvumpa both scoring two goals apiece. Their fifth was netted by defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.
Stuttgart could have easily won their opening match by a wider margin, as they registered a staggering nine shots on target. They endured a miserable campaign throughout 2022-23, but things are certainly looking brighter based on their performance level in the opening match of the new season.
RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart Head to Head
Leipzig are unbeaten in their last ten matches against Stuttgart in all competitions. Over that period, they have recorded eight wins, and have averaged 1.8 goals per game. Stuttgart have picked up just one point from their last eight Bundesliga matches against Leipzig, with that coming in the form of a 0-0 draw in August 2022.
RB Leipzig vs Stuttgart Prediction
Stuttgart were excellent in their opening match of the new season, but they will be put to the test against a Leipzig side that will be looking to get back on track this weekend. We find it challenging to overlook Leipzig’s excellent record in this fixture, and we fully expect them to land a first win of the new season at the second attempt on Friday.
