PSV threatened to get back into the game, but if a fourth goal was going to come, it always appeared likely that Sevilla would be the one to score it.
Last week’s win was Sevilla’s biggest knockout success in European competition since they beat Basel 3-0 in March 2016. Meanwhile, PSV’s defeat last week was their biggest suffered in a knockout fixture since a 3-0 loss against Zenit in February 2015.
It certainly bodes well for PSV’s chances on Thursday that they have scored seven unanswered goals across their previous two matches in the Europa League. However, they haven’t gone three games at home without conceding since December 2009.
