PSG could move to the top of the Ligue 1 standings for the first time this season on Friday. The Parisians will be chasing a fourth straight league win when they host Montpellier, who have won just twice over their previous five.
Ligue 1 Preview
It has taken a while, but Luis Enrique’s plans at PSG are finally beginning to come across in the results that the team are achieving. The Parisians come into this weekend looking for a victory, which could send them to the top of the standings for the first time this term. They have shown excellent form in recent weeks after winning each of their last three in France.
PSG are the joint-highest scorers in the French top flight, but they will need to sharpen up defensively after averaging just under a goal per game across their opening ten fixtures this term. Enrique’s side battled for maximum points on the road last weekend, eventually securing a 3-2 win at Brest. The winning goal was scored in the 89th minute after Kylian Mbappe added a second of the match to secure victory.
Montpellier will be hoping for better over the coming weeks, as they currently sit down in eleventh in the current standings. The French side have won just three of their nine matches this term, and they have suffered the same number of defeats. Their consistency would be a concern at this stage, evident from the fact that they have failed to win on three occasions over their last five.
But, they do come into this match after one of their most impressive displays of the season so far, as they landed a 3-0 home win over Toulouse last Sunday. Akor Adams was a star performer in that fixture, as he netted twice in the opening 72 minutes. But, this will be a much bigger test.
PSG vs Montpellier Head to Head
PSG has a dominant record in this fixture, as the reigning French champions have won each of their last eight against Montpellier. The latest of those was a fine 3-1 win on the road in February.
PSG vs Montpellier Prediction
Montpellier will be in good confidence after their impressive win last weekend, but they haven’t won in Paris since May 2010 in Ligue 1. That looks unlikely to change on Friday, as we expect PSG to safely secure maximum points.
