Lille finished fifth last term, while Nice will be hopeful of a resurgence after ending last term in ninth. [banner][/banner]

Ligue 1 Preview

Lille will kick off their 2023-24 campaign on the road this weekend, as they look to force their way back into the Europa League positions. The French side finished the previous campaign in fifth, meaning that they will be competing in the Europa Conference League this term. Lille has enjoyed an excellent pre-season, as they have won all three of the matches that they have played.  They have looked strong in the final third in all the matches that they have played, as they have scored an impressive 13 goals. However, they will have questions to answer defensively this weekend, as they allowed seven goals across their pre-season matches before their Ligue 1 opener. But, the arrivals of Samuel Umtiti and Tiago Santos could both be key signings in the defensive positions, which could lead them closer to the Europa League spot.  Nice will be looking to get back on track this season after finishing a disappointing ninth in Ligue 1 last term. They were too easy to beat toward the end of the season last term, as they suffered four losses across their last eight matches in the competition. [news_button][/news_button] There will be a fresh feel to the team this season, as they have spent big in their goal to bridge the gap to the European places. The signings of Jeremie Boga and Terem Moffi could be key in the final third, while Morgan Sanson will add some solidity to the middle of the field.

Nice vs Lille Head to Head

Nice has won each of their last two matches against Lille, and three of their last four. However, three of the previous four encounters between these sides have been won by the team playing away from home. That includes a 3-1 win for Lille in this exact fixture in May 2022.

Nice vs Lille Prediction

Nice have spent big this summer in the hope of finishing in a European spot. This will be an interesting opening day assignment for the hosts, but we could see them kicking off their campaign with a 2-1 win over their Ligue 1 rivals. PSG have wrapped up the Ligue 1 title, extending their domestic dominance in the French League. They will end their season in front of the home faithful at the Parc des Princes on Saturday at 19:00 GMT when they host Clermont Foot.

PSG will look to extend their unbeaten run at the end of the season to four matches and bounce back to winning ways after they could only draw 1-1 at Strasbourg last Saturday.

Clermont, who are 8th on the Ligue 1 log, will look to finish the season strongly and maintain their position as they cap off a brilliant season in Ligue 1, an improvement on last season’s 17th-place finish and brush with relegation.

Key Highlights

PSG Ligue 1 Champions

PSG have had an up-and-down season; however, they have sealed the title. Their current tally of 86 points heading into the clash against Clermont Foot on Saturday was enough to win the title last season, with second-placed Marseille trailing by 15 points.

This season, Lens have run them close; they sit on 81 points, four behind the champions heading into the final match of the Ligue 1 season.

Christophe Galtier will be happy that his PSG side has secured Ligue 1 in his first season. However, the debrief of the season might end up focusing on the failure of the Parisians in the Champions League after Bayern Munich eliminated them.

After wrapping up the title, Galtier will be aware of the risk of players switching off the levels and standards. This was evident in the draw at Strasbourg, and he will look to prepare his charges for this game and cut out any complacency or drop in standards in the Parisians’ performance.

Clermont Foot’s Top Half Finish

Clermont have improved significantly this season compared to their 17th-place finish and brush with a relegation struggle last season.

They currently sit 8th on the table with 56 points, one ahead of 9th-placed Nice. They will need to win their last match away at PSG to enhance their chances of retaining their 8th spot, or Nice could leapfrog them if they win their last match of the season.

Pascal Gastien and his charges have won three, drawn once, and lost once in their last five matches. This run of form demonstrates the battling traits at Clermont, which might serve them well when they travel to face PSG on Saturday.

Injury Report

PSG

Galtier will be without goalkeeper Sergio Rico, who is out with a brain haemorrhage. Left-back Nuno Mendes is also sidelined with a hamstring injury. Also out with a hamstring problem is right-back Nordi Mukiele.

PSG are also without the services of forward Neymar. The Brazilian international underwent ankle surgery and is unavailable until at least June 30, 2023.

Center-back Presnel Kimpembe is also sidelined with an Achilles tendon rupture. The 27-year-old is out until at least June 15, 2023.

Clermont

Pascal Gastien will have the full complement of his squad ahead of the trip to the capital to face PSG on Saturday.

Possible Lineups

PSG

G. Donnarumma; E. C. Bithisabu, S. Ramos, D. Pereira; J. Bernat, R. Sanches, M. Verratti, Vitinha, W. Zaire-Emery; K. Mbappe, L. Messi

Clermont

M. Diaw; A. Seidu, M. Wieteska, M. Caufriez; M. Zeffane, M. Gonalons, J. Gastein, Neto Borges; S. Khaoui, A. Maurer; G. Kyei

Prediction

PSG will look to dominate the ball, set the match’s tempo, and create many goalscoring chances.

Clermont Foot will be pragmatic in their approach. They will prioritize solidity and compactness and use pace to attack in transitions.

PSG will end the season on a winning note by overcoming Clermont Foot on Saturday and taking the three points on offer.
