Key Highlights

Tottenham’s Big Match Credentials

Top of the Premier League table and unbeaten, Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham have thrown down the gauntlet in the league this season, setting the pace at the top and showing no signs of stopping. Tottenham have been dynamic and potent going forward; they have scored 22 goals in the league so far, highlighting their free-scoring abilities in the final third. However, they have been solid and compact in the defensive phase as well, conceding just nine goals in 10 matches. They are currently on a four-match winning run that has seen them open a two-point gap ahead of second-placed and their North London rivals Tottenham. They have played big matches this season with an impressive record, they beat Manchester United 2-0, drew with Arsenal 2-2 in the derby, and defeated Liverpool 2-1. They will look to retain their big match credentials when they host Chelsea for another London derby.

Chelsea’s Top Six Blues

After an impressive performance in the London derby match against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea failed to build on it, losing 0-2 at home to Brentford. This has been the story at Chelsea for a year now. Under Mauricio Pochettino, nothing has changed significantly when it comes to their consistency and ability to win matches, especially at home. [news_button][/news_button] They travel to Tottenham after beating Blackburn in the EFL Cup round of 16; a confidence-building win that might give them something to build on at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday. Chelsea have played two top-six teams so far this season, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Liverpool. They drew with Liverpool (1-1) and Arsenal (2-2) and lost at home to Aston Villa.  The trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night will be another attempt at winning against a top-six team in the league and another chance for Mauricio Pochettino and his men to send a statement of intent.

Injury Report

Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou will have to assess some players ahead of the home match against Chelsea on Monday. Left-back Destiny Udogie has had a muscle problem since October 23rd, which has kept him out of two matches. The 20-year-old will be assessed late before a decision is made regarding his participation against Chelsea. Left winger Manor Solomon is also a major doubt, with the 24-year-old nursing a meniscus injury since October 5th; the injury has sidelined him for three matches so far. Postecoglou will be without left midfielder Ivan Perisic, with the 34-year-old having torn his cruciate ligament on September 20th. Tottenham will also be without goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman (ankle) and left midfielder Ryan Sessegnon (surgery). [banner][/banner]

Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino will be unable to call on left-back Ben Chilwell, with the 26-year-old having hurt his hamstring on September 27. The fullback has missed six matches for Chelsea so far. Trevor Chalobah (thigh problems) and Wesley Fofana (torn cruciate ligament) are also out of the trip to Tottenham. Other players unavailable include Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka. Mikhailo Mudryk will need a late test to determine his involvement.

Aston Villa will be aiming to continue their reliable start to the new Premier League season on Sunday when they travel to Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest. The hosts will be in desperate search of a win after dropping to 16th in the standings.

Premier League Preview

Unai Emery’s impression at Aston Villa has been unrivalled, as the club have progressed excellently under the Spaniard. When Emery took over at the club, they were languishing toward the bottom of the standings, but this weekend, they could move into the Champions League spots.

Villa’s start to the new season has been excellent after their opening day blip against Newcastle. The Midlands side come into this match in excellent recent form, as they have won four of their previous five. They are the joint-highest scorers in the Premier League, and they could move to within one point of the top of the standings with a third straight success on Sunday. Villa easily landed victory last weekend with a 3-1 home win over Luton.

It has been a testing period for Forest in recent weeks, as their form has dropped off significantly. That has seen the East Midlands side drop to 16th in the league standings, as they have won just twice in their opening ten matches. Scoring goals has been a continued issue for Forest, as they have netted just ten times in the competition this term.

They come into this fixture without a win in their previous five. However, last weekend’s defeat against Liverpool was their first loss in four matches in the Premier League. But, draws have been an issue so far this term, as they have been held on four occasions in the competition.

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Head to Head

Villa have gone six matches without defeat against Forest, winning on four occasions over that period. Their latest win was a 2-0 success at Villa Park in April, while this exact clash last season ended in a 1-1 draw. Forest’s last win against Villa was a 2-1 success in the Championship in 2017.

Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Prediction

Aston Villa’s impressive start to the season looks like a challenging factor to overlook this weekend. We expect them to maintain their excellent recent form in the Premier League by landing a 2-0 win on the road against the Midlands rivals at the City Ground.
