Erik ten Hag will be keen for his Man United side to get back on track this weekend following their heavy defeat at Anfield last weekend. United host Southampton, who remain in the bottom three places in the Premier League standings.
Premier League Preview
It has been a testing week for Manchester United, as many of the players have faced questions following the 7-0 loss against Liverpool last Sunday. Ten Hag also had big questions of his players, as the performance at Anfield was well below the standards that the club have set since the domestic season resumed after the World Cup. For the most part, many believe that the result was just a freak score, but the Red Devils will need to get back on the right track to ensure that there isn’t a lasting impact.
United remain comfortably in the top four positions in the Premier League standings, and their defeat against the Reds last weekend was just their second in all competitions since play resumed after the international break. The Red Devils were comfortable 3-0 winners in their most recent home game in the league against Leicester City.
Southampton remains locked in the bottom three places of the Premier League standings at this stage of the season. The Saints are just a point from safety at present, but they come into this game in relatively decent form after picking up two wins from their last three matches.
In their most recent match, the Saints battled well to ensure that they picked up a vital 1-0 home win against Leicester City, but they have still suffered more defeats than any other side in the Premier League this season. But, confidence will certainly be taken from their recent away win at Chelsea coming into this trip to the Theatre of Dreams.
Man United vs Southampton Head to Head
United has gone 13 Premier League matches without defeat against the Saints. Their most recent win was a 1-0 success earlier this term. However, the Saints did play out a 1-1 draw in their previous visit to Old Trafford. But, their last win at United was achieved back in January 2016.
