The pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has risen slightly over the past couple of weeks, as United have lost twice. However, the Red Devils will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league on Saturday lunchtime as they host Everton.
Premier League Preview
One defeat always changes the atmosphere around Old Trafford, but two often leads to talk of a crisis. United were knocked out of the EFL Cup by West Ham last week, and were handed a first league defeat of the new campaign last weekend. It was a very disappointing performance from United, as they looked wasteful in front of goal. The Red Devils had 28 shots on total in that fixture, but only hit the target on four occasions. Aston Villa eventually were able to get a famous win at the Theatre of Dreams, which saw United slip to fourth. United’s misery in front of goal was compounded in the final minute of the game, as Bruno Fernandes fired his penalty over the top of the crossbar.
Life under Rafael Benitez continued to go well at Everton, as the Toffees made it four wins from six last weekend. Everton come into this fixture just below United in the league standings, but a victory will be enough to send them top for at least a couple of hours. It was a routine victory for Everton last time out, as they claimed a 2-0 win against struggling Norwich City. Andros Townsend opened the scoring from the penalty spot after half an hour, before the points were ensured with just over ten minutes remaining, as the impressive Abdoulaye Doucoure got the goal that his performance deserved.
Manchester United vs Everton Head to Head
United have an excellent record against the Toffees, as they have lost just once against Everton in the last 12 meetings. That defeat came in a 4-0 loss back in April 2019. Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, Everton have won just once since their first ever visit to the Theatre of Dreams in 1992, with United claiming victory on 20 occasions.
Manchester United vs Everton Prediction
United need to respond following their disappointing performance last weekend. It may not be the prettiest win, but we expect the Red Devils to get over the line, and claim a 2-1 success at Old Trafford, with Cristiano Ronaldo once again proving the difference.
