The outright favourites for the Europa League this season will come up against Copenhagen in their quarterfinal on Monday evening. But, will the Red Devils be able to assert their dominance against the Danish side?
Europa League Preview
Manchester United will be taking the Europa League very seriously over the next month or so, despite having already secured their place in the Champions League next season by securing a top-four finish in the Premier League. United have only been beaten once in the competition this season, and that was on an evening where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielded the youngest starting eleven in Manchester United’s European history against Astana. The Red Devils finished top of the group with a comfortable four points lead over AZ in second.
The Red Devils came up against Club Brugge in the round of 32 stage. They drew the first leg 1-1, before getting the job done in the second leg by winning 5-0. Bruno Fernandes was on the scoresheet in that big win, while there was also a brace for Fred and one for both Odion Ighalo and Scott McTominay. Ighalo was once again on the scoresheet for United in the first leg of their round of 16 tie against LASK. Further goals from Daniel James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira ensured a 5-0 success for the Red Devils. It was a comfortable second leg back at Old Trafford, as Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial secured the 2-1 win.
Copenhagen were forced to work a lot harder in their second leg against Istanbul Basaksehir, as they trailed from the first leg 1-0. However, it was an excellent performance from the Danish side as they secured a hard-fought 3-0 win. Jonas Wind scored a brace to put Copenhagen into the ascendency, before Rasmus Falk ensured it was a memorable night for the Danish outfit. However, this will be a much harder challenge against the Red Devils.
Manchester United vs Copenhagen Team News
There are new fresh injury concerns for the Red Devils, as they will still be without Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones. Meanwhile, Copenhagen could welcome back Viktor Fischer and Michael Santos after groin and thigh problems respectively.
Manchester United vs Copenhagen Prediction
This should be one of the most straightforward Europa League fixtures to predict, as Manchester United should have enough quality to ease past the Danish side. The handicap market could offer value for bets on the Red Devils.
