Premier League Preview
A busy week for Manchester City comes to a close on Saturday as they welcome Newcastle to town. Before the weekend, the reigning Premier League and European champions will be UEFA Super Cup action in Greece, as they take on Sevilla. But, Pep Guardiola will be keen to avoid resting his top stars after an impressive display against Burnley in their opening match of the new season.
Erling Haaland needed just four minutes to open his account for the new season, before he added a second goal after 36 minutes. Rodri completed the scoring in the 75th minute on what was a very comfortable evening at Turf Moor for the champions. They defended excellently in that tricky-looking fixture, as they conceded just a single shot on target against Vincent Kompany’s free-scoring Championship champions.
Newcastle was involved in one of the standout fixtures across the opening weekend, as they came up against big-spending Aston Villa at St. James’ Park. However, the Magpies were in stunning form in front of their home fans. Sandro Tonali made an instant impression in front of the Geordies, as he opened the scoring after just six minutes.
Villa dragged themselves level just five minutes later, before Newcastle scored five minutes after to re-establish their lead. Alexander Isak added a second goal after the break, before the scoring to complete a huge 5-1 home win on matchday one was completed by Callum Wilson, and new signing Harvey Barnes.
