Liverpool will play their first home match of the 2023-24 season on Saturday, as they welcome Bournemouth to Anfield. It promises to be a busy couple of weeks off the field for the Reds, but the attention will be on the pitch when the Cherries come to town.
Premier League Preview
Liverpool will open their campaign at Anfield this term on Saturday, as they look to register a first victory of the new season after being held to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in their opening match. The Reds started the brighter of the two teams at Stamford Bridge, and deservedly took the lead after Luis Diaz slotted home following a sensational pass from Mohamed Salah.
However, the Reds were unable to maintain their high level of performance, and allowed Chelsea back into the game before the break. In truth, Chelsea looked like the most likely winner in the second half, as they created the clear goalscoring opportunities. Jurgen Klopp will be hopeful of addressing his issues in the middle of the field before Saturday, but the forward line looked extremely dangerous on Sunday.
A new era at Bournemouth got underway on Saturday, as the Cherries played out a 1-1 draw against West Ham. The Cherries were more possession-based than they have been in recent seasons, as they enjoyed 63% of the ball. However, they fell behind early in the second half against the Hammers.
But, Bournemouth responded well, and didn’t panic when they were chasing the game. They were good value for their equalising goal, which was scored by Dominic Solanke with just eight minutes remaining. The draw means that Bournemouth are now unbeaten in their last four opening matches of the Premier League season.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth Head to Head
Liverpool have won 12 of their 15 previous matches against Bournemouth, with the Cherries picking up just two wins over that period. The previous encounter saw Bournemouth pick up a 1-0 home win. However, they were dismantled on their previous visit to Anfield, losing 9-0 in August of last year.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction
Liverpool’s attacking players looked very sharp against Chelsea in their opening match, but Bournemouth will likely get chances against a make-shift Reds defence. We could see both teams finding the net, but the preference is for Liverpool to start their home campaign with a victory against the Cherries.
