There will be an interesting fixture in the Premier League on Saturday evening, as Manchester City will make their first trip to Elland Road for a top-flight match in 16 years. But, will Leeds be able to pile more misery on Pep Guardiola?
Premier League Preview
Manchester City are already starring down the barrel of potential Premier League disappointment, as there is already a six-point difference between the Citizens and Liverpool. City were handed a massive defeat in their most recent Premier League outing, as they were thumped 5-2 at the Etihad by Leicester City. Jamie Vardy once again proved to be City’s kryptonite as he scored a hat-trick in the win, while James Maddison and Youri Tielemans also found the net.
Three of the City back four gave away penalties in the defeat, with the only exception being Nathan Ake. Ake also scored a late consolation in the defeat. The heavy loss looked unlikely after just five minutes as Riyad Mahrez scored an early opener. However, City will need to improve defensively before travelling to Leeds on Saturday.
Leeds would have been watching the capitulation at the Etihad with a smile on their face, as they would have seen numerous areas where they will be able to hurt the Citizens. Leeds have already shown their prowess in the attacking third at Anfield this season, as they scored three in a 4-3 defeat. Only Liverpool and Leicester have scored more goals than Leeds this season, and they come into this game having won their last two.
Their most recent fixture was the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United. The winning goal in the game was scored by Patrick Bamford with two minutes remaining. Bamford has already defied his critics, who questioned whether he was Premier League quality, as he has scored three goals in three games.
Leeds United vs Manchester City Head To Head
This will be the first meeting between these sides since the 2003-04 season. Leeds won the last meeting in the top-flight between the sides, and have also won three of the last five Premier League meetings. The last meeting between the sides actually came in the 2013 FA Cup, as City ran out 4-0 winners in the Fourth Round.
Leeds United vs Manchester City Prediction
Manchester City’s defensive worries have been evident so far this season, and Leeds could make them pay this weekend. This will be a huge occasion for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, and they will take at least a point out of the game to show how far they have come.
