Competitive action in Group D of EURO qualification takes place this week, as Armenia look to keep alive their hopes of reaching the major tournament. Latvia will have the home field advantage, as they bid to end a five-match losing sequence.
EURO 2024 Qualifier Preview
The pressure will be on Armenia as the play resumes in Group D of EURO qualification on Thursday. The nation haven’t reached the EUROs since being part of the Soviet Union, having failed to gain qualification in each of the previous seven tournaments. However, they have an excellent chance of ending that poor record as the business end of matches take place before the end of the calendar year.
Armenia currently sits third in the Group D standings, as they have won two of their five matches so far. However, they remain three points behind the top two in the standings. But, the nation could move up to second if they are able to claim victory this week. Confidence certainly would be taken from their recent matches on the road, as they have gone two without defeat in 2023.
Latvia’s dreams of reaching the EUROs next summer have already come to an abrupt end, as they have been eliminated from contention after losing each of their five Group D matches. That leaves them sitting at the bottom of the standings.
They haven’t been good enough at either end of the pitch so far, as they have scored just three goals and have allowed 13. Their record this calendar year is also extremely concerning, as they have lost all six matches that they have played. They were most recent beaten 2-0 by Wales in Riga, which was the fourth match in which they had failed to win in front of their home fans since the start of last year.
Latvia vs Armenia Head to Head
This will only be the fourth time that Latvia and Armenia have collided at international level. Armenia landed a first ever win against their rivals in the first meeting between the sides in qualification.
Latvia vs Armenia Prediction
This is a must-win game for Armenia in their quest to achieve an unlikely qualification to the EUROs next summer. They have been in excellent form this calendar year, and that makes them the standout selection to land maximum points on the road in Riga.
