The Spanish top flight is settling into the groove for the La Liga 2019/20 season. The biggest sides will have to keep winning if they want to dethrone Barcelona as the champions, while the teams towards the bottom end of the table will know that every point they pick up is vital.
Barcelona 5-2 Real Betis
It was a return to winning ways for Barcelona on Sunday evening following their shock defeat on an opening day. Antoine Griezmann would have enjoyed his first action at the Nou Camp as he scored twice on his home debut for the club. The other goals for the hosts were scored by Carles Perez, Jordi Alba and Arturo Vidal. But, Betis regularly held a threat of their own and twice found the back of the net through strikes from Nabil Fekir and Lorenzo Garcia.
Real Madrid 1-1 Valladolid
The inconsistency of Real Madrid was on full display once again on Saturday afternoon as they slipped up at the Bernabeu against lowly Valladolid. Madrid did most of the pressing throughout the game and thought they had done enough to win it when Karim Benzema found the net eight minutes from time. However, the traveling side sprung a surprise of their own when Sergio Navarro netted the equalizer two minutes from time.
Celta Viga 1-0 Valencia
Valencia is many peoples’ picks as a dark horse this season, but it hasn’t been the best start for the club as they are yet to win. Their most recent result was a defeat away from home against Celta Vigo. The only goal of the game was scored by Gabriel Fernandez after 15 minutes.
Leganes 0-1 Atletico Madrid
Atletico made it two wins from two as they were patient in their clash with Leganes. It was a frustrating evening for Diego Simeone’s side as they bossed the proceedings without being able to break down their opponent’s compact defense. However, they finally got their chance with 20 minutes remaining, and Vitolo was the surprise hero for Atletico.
Granada 0-1 Sevilla
The surprise side at the top of the table at this early stage are Sevilla. They backed up their opening day win with another success at Granada. Joan Jordan scored the only goal of the game shortly after the interval. They can make it three wins from three next weekend when they host Celta Vigo.
