The Ministry of Sports of the Primorsky Territory in Russia has decided to redirect the funds provided for financing HC Admiral to the Primorye Reserve Fund for activities to battle the spread of coronavirus, according to the official website of the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of Primorsky Territory.
“The Admiral team from Primorye will not play in the Kontinental Hockey League in the new season; the club will only have youth teams in the JHL and U18, as well as a youth sports school,” the press release said.
“It is also important that only local athletes will play in all youth teams,” the department highlighted.
Recall, on March 24, the former mentor of the Karaganda “Saryarka” Leonid Tambiev became the Admiral’s head coach from Vladivostok, signing a contract for three years. On March 22, two-time Stanley Cup holder Sergey Nemchinov was appointed as well.
Last season, the Admiral took 12th place in the Eastern Conference, gaining 56 points in 62 matches.
As of March 31, 2337 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in Russia, and 17 deaths were recorded. At the same time, 121 people were cured of the number of infected. In Primorsky Krai, coronavirus was diagnosed in 4 cases.
