England’s target of winning a first major trophy since 1966 saw them eventually come up short at the EUROs in heartbreaking fashion, but all the attention swiftly turns to the World Cup in just over 12 months time. It’s fair to say that England run to the final of the EUROs was fully embraced by the home support. Hungary look to be in direct competition with Poland for the second spot in the group, as they opened their campaign with two wins and a draw. They were held by Poland in the opening game, before wins against San Marino and Andorra have put them into a promising position. Confidence will be high within the camp, as they narrowly missed out on a place in the knockout stage of the EUROs after a pulsating finish in their group of death. After taking a point against France, a win would have been enough to put them through. They led Germany after an Andras Schafer goal, but their hearts were broken six minutes from time as Leon Goretzka equalised for the Germans.
