Freiburg out-performed all expectations last season, as they finished in a European place after securing fifth in the standings. Pellegrino Matarazzo will take charge of the team for his first full season at the club, and he has been backed throughout the summer window with the arrivals of Julian Justvan, Florian Grillitsch, and Wout Weghorst. They kicked off their domestic campaign with a fine display in the DFB Pokal on Monday, beating Lubeck 4-1 on the road. Andrej Kramaric scored twice in that success.
