The final game of the African Nations Championship quarterfinal weekend takes place on Sunday, as Guinea will be looking to continue their fine run in the competition by overcoming Rwanda.
African Nations Championship Preview
The tightest of all the quarterfinals in this year’s competition will take place on Sunday evening, as both Guinea and Rwanda will fancy their chances of reaching the semi-final stage. Guinea managed to pick up five points from the group games that they played in Group D, which saw them top the group on goal difference. However, they managed to seal top spot courtesy of their superior goal difference. They have certainly been one of the most enjoyable teams to watch in the competition so far this season, as they have scored in all three games that they have played. Their first game ended in a 3-0 win against Namibia, with Yakhouba Barry scoring twice in the win. Barry is currently the top scorer in the African Nations Championship this year. However, Guinea were unable to follow up that opening day win with another success, as they have draw their last two. The first of those games was a 1-1 result against Zambia, before drawing 2-2 with Tanzania on the final matchday.
There will likely be a clash of styles in this fixture, as Rwanda had struggled to score throughout much of the games that they have played in the African Nations Championship. They have scored just three goals in three games, which is half the number of goals that have been scored by Guinea. All three of those goals were scored in their last group game, which sealed their place in the quarterfinals. They picked up a 3-2 win over Togo. Oliver Niyonzima, Jacques Tuyisenge and Ernest Sugira scored the goals in the win.
Guinea vs Rwanda Head To Head
These two sides haven’t met on many occasions in the past, as this will be just the fourth time that the nations have clashed. Rwanda are yet to pick up a win. Guinea’s only win against Rwanda came in 2018, while the other two fixtures have ended in 1-1 draws.
Guinea vs Rwanda Prediction
Guinea should have the quality to get the win in this fixture, as they have been in solid form throughout the competition to this point. They have clear attacking quality, and that will be the factor that gets them through this quarterfinal.
