Germany’s preparations for their home EUROs to continue over the next couple of weeks in June, as they played international friendlies against Poland and Colombia. However, before then, the German national side will welcome Ukraine to Westerstadion on Monday evening.
International Friendly Preview
Germany will continue their preparations for the European Championships on Monday evening when they clash with Ukraine. The match takes place just under 12 months before the major tournament will get underway in Berlin, and there are certainly issues that the hosts must iron out if they have hopes of winning the major tournament next year.
Germany exited the World Cup in Qatar in embarrassing fashion, as they were eliminated in the group stage for the second straight tournament. Since then, they have competed in two international fixtures. The first of those saw them register a straightforward 2-0 win over Peru, before they were beaten in dramatic fashion by Belgium in late March, with the visitors claiming a 3-2 win.
Ukraine will also have their sights set on an emotional qualification campaign to reach the EUROs next summer. However, they face a challenge to achieve that feat after being drawn in the same qualification group as England and Italy. Ukraine were beaten 2-0 at Wembley by England in their last international fixture.
That defeat means that they have now won just once in their last four international fixtures. Their only success was a 5-0 away win against Armenia in the Nations League. They have been held to two draws over their last five, with those coming in home fixtures against Ireland and Scotland.
Germany vs Ukraine Head to Head
Ukraine has never previously picked up a victory against Germany in an international fixture. The nations have clashed on eight previous occasions, with Germany recording five wins and three draws. Germany has also won each of the last three encounters, which includes a 3-1 win in November 2020. The most recent match in which Ukraine avoided defeat came in the form of a thrilling 3-3 draw in November 2011.
Germany vs Ukraine Prediction
The pressure will continue to build on Germany as the start of the EUROs edges ever nearer. This is a solid fixture to get them back on track on the pitch after their recent defeat against Belgium, and we can see them securing a comfortable 2-0 win over Ukraine.
