West Ham competes in the last eight of a European competition for the second straight campaign this week. They will be hoping to maintain their excellent showing to this point, as they travel to Belgium to take on Gent away from home.

It has been a poor campaign domestically for West Ham, as they continue to battle for points at the bottom end of the standings in the Premier League. However, in Europe, it has been a different story for the Hammers. They have eased through to the knockout rounds with little stress, and they reached the last eight after landing a huge 6-0 aggregate win over AEK Larnaca in the previous round.
The Hammers were excellent in the second leg of that showdown, as they claimed a dominant 4-0 win at the London Stadium. West Ham has also kept clean sheets in each of their previous four matches in the Europa Conference League.
This will already be Gent’s fifth match in the knockout stage of the Europa Conference League. They have lost just once across the matches that they have played to this point, but they overturned that defeat against Qarabag with a second leg success.
In the previous round, they were considered underdogs against Istanbul Basaksehir. However, they claimed an excellent 4-1 win on the road against the Turkish side in the second leg. Gift Orban was in stunning form in that second leg, as he scored a three-minute first half hat-trick to stun their Turkish rivals.
Gent vs West Ham Head to Head
This will be the third clash between these two sides. However, it will be the first time that they have locked horns since October 1974. On that occasion, the teams played out a 1-1 draw in the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup. However, the first meeting between the sides saw West Ham land a 1-0 win in Belgium.

West Ham has been in excellent form throughout their run to this stage of the Europa Conference League. However, this is likely to be the most difficult match that they have played. We expect it to be a low-scoring affair, but we could see the Hammers registering a 1-0 win.
