The 2022-23 campaign was one that Everton would like to forget very quickly. However, their top-flight status was assured on the final day, and they will be looking for a brighter start in 2023-24, as they kick off their campaign against Fulham at Goodison Park.
Premier League Preview
It was a nervy end to the previous campaign for Everton, as they came within 90 minutes of suffering a first relegation since 1953-54. However, they maintained their Premier League status on the final day of the campaign with a 1-0 home win over Bournemouth. But, Sean Dyche will be keen to ensure that his side don’t end up in the same position once again this term. The Toffees will certainly look to add numbers over the final weeks of the transfer window, especially in defence following the departure of Yerry Mina.
Everton have already added numbers in the attacking areas, as they have brought in Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal, and Youssef Chermiti on a permanent deal from Sporting Lisbon. The latter could have a role to play this term, but he will likely need to hit the ground running after netting just three goals in 22 matches in Portugal last term.
Fulham enjoyed a strong return to the Premier League last term, as Marco Silva guided the Cottagers to a tenth place finish. However, there have been questions all summer about the long-term future of Aleksandar Mitrovic, who netted 15 goals across all competitions last term.
At present, the Serbian remains at the club, but he is still keen to push through a move to Saudi Arabia. Fulham have already added depth to that position of the field, as they paid an undisclosed fee to Wolves for Raul Jimenez. Meanwhile, the Cottagers also brought in former Rangers defender Calvin Bassey from Ajax.
Everton vs Fulham Head to Head
Fulham is unbeaten in their last three matches against Everton, winning at Goodison Park in each of their previous two visits. The most recent of those was a 3-1 success in April. Everton has gone two home matches without a win against the Cottagers, with their most recent success coming in September 2018.
Everton vs Fulham Prediction
Everton’s home record in this fixture is exceptionally poor. Fulham have been busy over the summer, and we expect them to avoid defeat on the opening day. However, the most likely result may be the draw.
