Two sides that already look to have run their race in qualification will lock horns in Group F on Friday, as Azerbaijan travel to Estonia. The hosts can yet achieve qualification to the EUROs next summer, as they have a playoff to look ahead to next year.
EURO 2024 Qualifier Preview
There will be very little to play for in Group F on Friday when Azerbaijan and Estonia lock horns. Both sides already appear to have run their race in terms of a qualifying spot in the group, with both sitting on just one point. The hosts can’t qualify directly for the EUROs in the group, but they have the added benefit of a playoff following impressive displays throughout the Nations League.
Estonia will be very disappointed with their performances throughout qualification, as they have picked up four defeats from their five internationals. Their only point was picked up in the reverse clash with their rivals this weekend. But, there is often a solid performance in this Estonia side, as they have landed big wins over Lithuania and Finland over the last 12 months.
Azerbaijan can still mathematically qualify in the top two spots, but that appears incredibly unlikely with four matches remaining, as they sit 12 points adrift of the top two places. Therefore, they will need to be perfect in their remaining matches to stand any chance, which looks unlikely with clashes against Belgium and Austria still to come.
Azerbaijan have lost three of their four qualifying matches this year, with their only point being picked up against Estonia in June. However, confidence around the camp will likely be high after landing a 2-1 win against Jordan in a friendly in the most recent international break last month.
Estonia vs Azerbaijan Head to Head
This will be the 10th international clash between these two sides, with half of the previous meetings ending in draws. Estonia landed a home win in November 2013, while Azerbaijan’s only victory against their rivals was recorded on home soil in November 1998.
Estonia vs Azerbaijan Prediction
There is very little to separate these sides, as they match up very closely based on their recent results. However, Estonia’s home record against their rivals is strong, and therefore, it could be worth taking a chance on the home side this weekend.
