Tuesday, January 21st
It’s Tuesday, it’s time for the first day of this midweek’s Premier League fixtures. Six games, three worthy of any note, one ‘big one’ – here are the highlights from England on Tuesday, January 21st.
Chelsea 2 – 2 Arsenal
Ten-man Arsenal stunned Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to seal a hard-earned 2-2 draw in a thrilling London derby that saw Arsenal launch a magnificent comeback to level Chelsea this Saturday.
33 – Chelsea have lost more Premier League points from winning positions against Arsenal than they have vs any other side in the competition (33). Pegged. #CHEARS pic.twitter.com/d1yJrj6Ig6

It’s fair to say that we witnessed a ridiculously messy 90 minutes of football, full of the best that the Premier League can offer: defensive blunders, red cards, epic goals, late comebacks, and determined pace, especially in the last 30 minutes.
Ex-Chelsea star David Luiz got sent-off in minute 26, which earned the hosts a penalty that Jorginho beautifully converted. Arsenal starlet (and future legend?) Gabriel Martinelli found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, which sealed a solid draw that we were all seemingly content with.
10 – Gabriel Martinelli is the first teenager to score 10+ goals in a single season for Arsenal (all competitions) since Nicolas Anelka in 1998-99. Wonder. #CHEARS pic.twitter.com/Y79dUpXFS3

But as usual, the Premier League pulled one out of the bag when Cesar Azpilicueta’s 84th-minute goal was canceled three minutes later by Hector Bellerin’s equalizer to seal the final scoreline.

The scenes at Stamford Bridge left Chelsea in fourth place with 30 points and Arsenal in tenth place, ten points behind their London rivals.
Everton 2 – 2 Newcastle United
Everton conceded two goals in the last two minutes of play and we can’t even make this stuff up. Newcastle miraculously rescued a point after trailing two goals down at Goodison Park and left Carlo Ancelotti and his men completely embarrassed this Saturday.
1/15 – Everton have lost just one of their last 15 home league games against Newcastle (W10 D4), going down 0-1 in September 2010. Test. #EVENEW pic.twitter.com/kNRpucinjv

Everton star Michael Keans put his team in the lead 30 minutes in, followed by a strike by team-mate Dominic Calvert-Lewin just after half-time. The Toffees seemed to have the score settled but then everything went horribly wrong for them. Newcastle were holding off the scoreline for most of the second half and then finally decided to turn up with Florian Lejeune, who netted two goals in the last two minutes of play just when it hurts the most.
You get what you deserve, Everton?
Aston Villa 2 – 1 Watford
Talk about drama this Tuesday: Aston Villa scored the winner in the 95th minute to beat Watford, taking the hosts out of the relegation zone and Watford right in it.

3 – Watford have scored three goals in each of their last three Premier League games against Aston Villa, winning each time. They’d failed to score in any of their first four against them in the competition (D1 L3). Trebles. #ASTWAT pic.twitter.com/HqMTI4Xzko

Watford veteran Troy Deeney scored the opener in the 38th minute at Villa Park, followed by Douglas Luiz’s 68th equalizer for Aston Villa. The stalemate seemed settled when Villa hero Tyron Mings’ last-gasp deflection-winner lifted his team out of the relegation zone!
This home victory, Aston Villa’s third in 11 Premier League matches, moved them up to 16th, two points clear off the drop zone, while Watford slipped back into the bottom three, just above last-placed Norwich City.
